Don’t want to be nit picky, but Tv is actually shutter priority. Av is aperture priority! :p 🙂
ooo oooh, lol. :p
*bows head in shame* 😮 😀
the smaller the aperture number, the higher depth of field
Don’t want to be nit-picky, other than to say that its the other way around on the aperture concept. The smaller the aperture number, the shorter the depth of field. The higher the aperture number, the higher the depth of field, and the more of the image you’ll get in focus.
Aperture mode, or TV mode, as MH has said is the best setting to use. The camera will then select the shutter speeds.
Your photos are pretty cool and are a great start with your DSLR (Ive always wanted to go to LCY 😎 ), but the first two are very slightly over exposed – the whites are two bright. Using aperture mode will help to sort this out to a degree and will also improve the look of the prop blades – although not massively. If you use even higher aperture numbers, i.e. perhaps around f 11 you will get even better results on the prop blades but ive never tried it so im not totally sure.
To get really blurred blades wihich look good, I think you have to use the shutter speed mode on the camera and use a really low shutter speed.
As for the crispiness; all photos that a camera produces need to go through some sort of post-processing on your computer. Sharpening the photo using an editing program will give you the ‘crisp’ results that you are looking for. You may also have a sharpness control feature in-camera but Im not sure with the 350D; and whether that would yield results, Im dont know.
I hope that helps! 🙂
Hope you guys don’t mind too much!
ooooooo, aahhhhhh! I think we can excuse this most evil of crimes just this once, Paul. Its once of those incredibly difficult-to-get shots. You should be very pleased with it.
MONKEEEEHHHH!!!!
I love monkeys 😀 😀 😀 😀
Kewwwwwl shot! 🙂 Thats such a fantastic monkeh, i just wanna hug him 😀
And as for you Adam; well you’re just strange. 😀 Do you consume a lot of banana’s by any chance? :diablo: 😉
Glad you like the shot 🙂 Check your PMs.

As well as admiring the photos, I also admire your self control. I don’t understand how anyone could spend just 10 minutes at an airport – even if they have to be somewhere else. I just couldnt do it!:D
Still, a very productive 10 minutes – the Air Southwest Dash is the pick of the bunch for me. 🙂
Here are a few from todays antics at Colchester Zoo, which i have hastily edited.

a slightly different take on the whole zoo idea
its pretty hard to get an unobscured photo of many of the animals at the zoo, even so, I quite like this one.

thanks

Great selection Phil! The new PIA livery looks a treat on the 777. 🙂
Thanks for the comments guys, very much appreciated! 🙂
Fantastic shots! The Gulf Air is a beaut! 🙂
seeing the specks and dirt on the window on #7 actually improves the photo! It gives a sense of perspective and makes me feel like Im actually sitting onboard looking out. Beautiful photo. great stuff Sam.:)
OK I am done with you and your idiotic attempts to interject. The only thing you have contributed to this discussion is “try a BigMa” the rest of your suggestions and jibes are as insignificant as the rest of your life. I am done with you.
Now shoo………..
Well, you sound like a nice he/she/it.
Your first post was interesting. You sound like one of those patronising salesmen that forces you to spend every little last penny you have in his shop, because if you don’t, you’ll end up being something close to a low life with sub-standard equipment. Thats what I think, anyway.
Tim, apologies, as PNM said, for turning your thread into what it has become; I’ll give what I can:
I have just looked at the Canon AE1 – its body design is much like the Olympus E-400/E410 models which are new cameras – if you were happy holding the AE1, then you should find the E-400/10 to be great to hold. Its 10megapixels and the range of lenses available is increasing – as is the popularity of the Olympus 4/3rds system.
Comfort of course, as already said isnt the only consideration though. In all fairness, DSLRs and the lenses are very ‘advanced’ pieces of kit and each one is capable of producing fantastic pictures, no matter which you go for.
Reviews on websites such as dpreview are done by people who spend hours examining cameras and lenses and are very scientific in their approach. These reviews pick up on the tiniest of problems, but, I think, to you or I, we would never notice them, nor I should think, care. To my eye atleast, the cameras and lenses still produce fantastic photos. What Im saying is, don’t take everything that these reviews say to be critically important – the end user, unless they are a professional photographer, won’t really worry about the fact that a button is in the wrong place or missing or that the continuous shooting rate is slightly inconsistant. Sure, I would read the reviews but don’t read too much into their finer details.
have fun with whatever you choose!:)
Excellent shots Tony! Only 4? Surely there are more that we can see?
thanks for the comments guys; here are some more!

the day didnt end too well, I have to say. There I was, on the underground train returning to London (and before you ask, lol, I was on the overground section of the underground); I look out and see a 747 on approach. It was red and white and belonged to Malaysian Airlines and its nickname began with an ‘H’. I was not happy. At all. Ah, you win some you lose some I guess.
excellents shots Mr Sam! The London shot is spectacular and I see that HK has really, really shiny floors in its terminal, lol. The Siberian shots are interesting – spooky in a way. dunno why, they just are.:)
