Bloomin’ wonderful shots, Sam. Really beautiful shots. I was at the Southside Fire Station during the morning, and saw many of the aircraft that you took whizzing past the station.
I remember thinking how wonderful it would be to be out there with a camera and remember seeing a couple of people on the southside, so may have driven past you in an Airfield Ops ‘Scarecrow’ vehicle!
Thanks for the comments everyone, much appreciated.
Its great to see images from an Airside point of view. Doe MAN have a policy about staff with Cameras airside?. Just at newcastle there banned airside for staff.
There is no policy banning photography airside, but you need to get permission from the relevant people first. The DfT has a set of rules saying that as a member of staff, you can only go airside for business reasons – you can’t go for the hell of it. I went with a business reason, but took advantage of the sun.:D
Glad to see you took a break from directing lost passengers to very well signposted locations within the terminal!
Paul
I should like to point out that directing lost passengers and Customer Services is not in my job description as I work back of house in Operations, but when passengers see someone with an airport pass, wearing a suit, they tend to swarm in all over you. Still, thats not to say that I don’t like helping lost, confused, or just plain stupid passengers – staff have an obligation to give customer service levels above and beyond the call of duty. :p
I don’t think that is the idea in all honesty. The general idea is that the watermark is difficult to get rid of without making it obvious. Watermarks placed in the corner of a shot in clear blue sky are easily cloned out. If you place it over a part of the fuselage or other object wthin the shot it will be obvious if cloning has taken place to try remove it.
That said, watermarks don’t necessarily need to be huge and offensive. I prefer to fade the watermark so it doesn’t detract too much from the image but would still be as obvious if someone tried to clone it out.
Each to their own, though!
Paul
My watermarks arent too huge and offensive are they?
I eat it using a teaspoon. Makes it all the more yummy. Somehow.

…A whole half pint tub of Haagen-Dazs ‘Cookies and Cream’ Ice Cream……all to my greedy little self. Yummy. 😀 Finished off in about an hour or two.

Wonderful work, Kevin! The sunset shot is ‘ooooo’.
Never stop climbing, circling and then climbing again. I fly every month and it was really weird. I would appreciate to hear possible explanations.
Air Traffic Control restrictions or routings likely.
As for the five emergencies in a month, I assume you mean situations where the emergency services were called to standby the side of the runway as an aircraft landed. Not to worry – this happens more than people might think, and Clickair is not the only airline by any means to have ‘as many as’ five emergencies in a month.
56.6 – the hell am I doing wrong?!
You think you’ve got problems…! I just managed to scrape past 50.

You’ll probably be on a 737-500
RE the English language thing: turn it around slightly – a series of recent Hajj pilgrimage flights were crewed by an all English, non-French speaking cabin crew. The passengers were all French Muslims and none of them spoke English.
So, it may be safe to say that lanaguage problems and incompatibilities are perhaps a common issue.
Pure class, Ian.
A perfect way of summarising the photos; ‘Pure Class’
BA have a MAN and JFK link at manchester and have had it for like over 25 years. Why havnt they expanded at MAN. They could have some really good routes from MAN such as SFO LAX YVR YYZ YUL IAD DFW aswell as BOM DEL BKK NRT PEK PVG HKG SIN(With onward to SYD).
They could also codeshare with EK on DXB Flight SQ on SIN Flights and AA on ORD flights. I see potneial for MAN to become a really good base for BA it is just a pitty that BA dont share my thought too. I think that if they did do this some of the LCC would want to Move out of MAN but hey that is no big loss for MAN as BA would easliy rise passenger numbers well above 10%.
Who is British Airways? Oh! You mean London Airways! BA is, on the whole, only interested in London. Hence, the selling of the Citiexpress thing to Flybe, and the ending of the GB Airways thing. Hence the neglect that BA has given MAN.
BA wouldnt codeshare with SQ on MAN-SIN, because Virgin already does! I don’t think that if BA came back, it would make the LCC leave MAN. The thing that will make LCC leave MAN, will be other LCCs.
MAN based its future growth and prospects on BA sticking around – MAN, unfortunately, didnt see BA pulling a fast one and leaving MAN in the way that they have.
I agree that BA could try new long haul routes from Manchester, but they won’t. We’ll only get long haul routes like that if and when foriegn long haul carriers move into MAN.
You could ask the same questions of Virgin. We’ve seen little expansion from them at MAN for a while. Why? I suspect its becuase of their enormous interest in London, and belief that they wouldnt be able to make reasonable load factors.
Will be interesting, however, to see what happens at MAN and other regional airports in the UK, once the US-Euro Open Skies agreement comes into force in the new year.
I haven’t got any ideas, other than to say perhaps they could paint a series of well known London landmarks down the length of the aircraft, to represent the true nature of the airline.
Joking aside, I like the current livery, but think it would be ultra-cool to paint the retro schemes on some of the aircraft – going all the way back to the BOAC days. Retro schemes look so good!
