Wooaw thanks, I never even expected to find a picture of that… Although it’s not a good missile for a submarine, there the supports can’t move away when the missile ignites…

That has indeed been my idea, yet, still there are many reports on SSBN type of vessel and of course about the testing of some kind of nuke from an Indian ship (I think it was a Dhanush or something like that). It was from a surface ship, and it was short-ranged in my opinion. Yet, they keep saying stuff like that…

k, thanks for the translation. Does it say what the TLAS stands for? Or it just that?
I ‘m talking about navies in general… And don’t give me that “our trade is maritime” and if you rule the sea you rule everything argument now… If my country didn’t have a Navy the last 40 years, well that would have just saved 80+ billion of my tax money. There are almost no countries willing to invade any country whatsoever. Imagine Indonesia or Taiwan invading China??? Neh.
Same with 516, what? It’s a pure offensive weapon. I mean, IF Taiwan would even try to attack you, would you then sail with your shore-bombardment ship to Taiwan and start bombing their shore? Such ships are quite offensive in nature.
And a thought I have forgot, the large four-Hovercraft design is still only a model and not built, some brain-guy could even have invented it… We don’t know untill it hits the water I suppose.

    As for Edisonone:
I don’t give a rat’s ass about what’s happening there (I just like all the new shippies!). If it depends on me, they can evaporate the stupid little island. Mainland China is almost as capitalistic as Taiwan, so it wouldn’t at all make a big difference.
If there would be an attack it’s going to be a hell good one. Imagine, all that stuff just fitted for such an invasion, that would be going quite smooth.

hmmm, it’s a 6,000t nuclear sub, called ATV (advanced Technology vessel)by them. But it’s quite secretive and no-one (I even think the designers included) knows what it’ll become… They don’t even know whether to build an SSBN or SSN.

Here’s news on the other candidate:

First picture of Lada/Amur class… Sankt Petersburg, probably for the Baltic fleet.

    The oceans await our “Lada”
    Vladimir GUNDAROV, the “Red Star”.

Already during October at the plant “admiralty shipyards” in the northern capital will pass the solemn ceremony of descent to the water of a new Russian diesel-electric submarine (SSK)”Saint Petersburg” of project 677 “Lada”. On this reported the design project leader OF TSKB MT. “Rubin” Igor Spasskiy, association of which developed the design of this submarine.

“Saint Petersburg” – the first submarine is not only of a new project. It opens the line SSK of the fourth generation. Its generation, in the essence, breakthrough in the technical and economic characteristics and technology. In it are realized more than hundred new scientific and design solutions. Radio-electronic armament, boat equipment and materials – last word of science and technology. In the opinion of the creators of submarine, it is the pilot project of all SSK, which will be constructed in the new century.

Basic difference in the energy-armament of submarine – the so-called”hydrogen small batteries”. This is main power plant (GEU) of the locked type, because of which in comparison with the traditional storage batteriesof diesel-electric submarines several times is increased theindependence.

However, Russian designers thirty a (!) years ago proposed GEU with the electrochemical generator (EKHG). Hydrogen and oxygen were used as the fuel cells in it. The submarine S -273 of project 613 they re-equipped on to project 6133 “Katran”. If usual boats at binodal speed without the booster charge could befound under water not more than four days, that with the use EKHG period increased to the month. The creation of diesels became the second direction in the designdevelopments, working on the closed cycle. Project 615 (Quebec) with the united engine, personified in the metal even in the middle of past century, it became unique in entire peace. But because of the frequent fires this submarine submariners themselves called it “cigarette lighter”.

The project originators of “Saint Petersburg” guarantee, what safety of operation by their GEU – by an order is higher. Head developer of propulsive systems with EKHG – special design bureauof boiler construction. Drawing on experience of Ural electrochemical combine and NPO “energy”on the creation EKHG for the automatic spacecraft, SKB developed engine for the submarines “crystal -20”, in which is used oxygen and hydrogen.

New submarine possesses tactical-technical elements, which, on the assertion of draftees, they will allow into two, and that three times to exceed on the combat effectiveness of thesubmarine of the third generation. New construction distinguishes the high degree of the automation ofthe processes of centralized control of all boat systems and weaponfrom the operator panels, located in primary command post. The power of rocket- torpedo complex is increased. “Saint Petersburg” they will arm with new antiship missile complex KLUB- S with the new automated information system for control ofweapon. New inertial navigation complex will be established. Hydroacoustic complex is also built on the new element base and withthe newest software. In the nose extremity highly sensitive hydrophone antenna is placed. Fundamentally new universal multifunctional periscope is established, not penetrating into the durable housing. Is inculcated the new system of the method of radio-information fromthe coast in the underwater position.

The level of underwater noise is reduced by more than 30 decibels, and the level of the radiated acoustic power – is more than into thousands of times! Thus, the noisiness of new boat will be practically approximating the background values of sea. Consequently, on the reticence it must exceed all submarines, built thus far not only, but also somewhere abroad.

Tactical-technical elements of the submarine of project 677 of”harmony”

Quantity of torpedo tubes, unit. – 6.
    Above-water (normal) the water-ism
    shcheniye, me – 2.350.
    Length, m – 73.8.
Width (diameter of durable housing), m – 9.9.
Speed of complete underwater running, knots. – 20.
Distance of underwater floating with the economic speed, miles – 400.
    Crew, man. – 52.
(tactical-technical elements of submarine they are undertaken from the official site FGUP “admiralty shipyards”).

Well here’s my first attempt of a Seascape. Don’t look at the ship, it was supposed to be Tirpitz. It’s my second kit ever… Just to test this method of water-making, to apply it to my Pyotr Velikiy cruiser later.
It’s not finished of course, and I still have to add the bowwave and water next to the ship.
Also the painted Delta III. She’s this small that I couldn’t get a good picture of her. I’ll have to try it again, but she has lost her diving rudder and antennae due to the monster called “MOM”.
Today I started building the Akula, this is how far she is completed this evening, paint still wet. and of course lacking the lower part paint and masts. But that will be added next week.

Hmm, TAS written on it, could be Towed Array Sonar… Of course that TAS is added. TLAS is in the text, could mean something like Towed Low-Frequency Array Sonar, or something like that. It looks like a Towed Array Sonar…
As for what you can do against SeaWolf? Make sure you don’t get them as your ennemy is the most cost effective way…
As otherwise, I think a high tech Submarine force of your own and some good ASW planes and ships equiped with VDS (this depends on where your Deep Sea Sound channel is located in Chinese seas, anyway it is always a good thing to have) and of course some towed array sonars. And equip all your ships with helicopters. Helicopters and planes are still the best assets due to their speed of operation and their invulnerability to the submarine. A surface ship is always in danger when it’s searching or fighting a submarine.

Hmm, Iraq WMD doesn’t mean anything… It just shows that the CIA has become a bit less good and has gotten a much more difficult ennemy now. KGB hasn’t been wrong too many times. Yet, the people that receive that information might abuse it or change it. They apparently weren’t wrong about 9/11.

PLAwolf, That indeed doesn’t mean they are going to do it, BUT, why build such a useless money consuming thing as a Navy when you’re not going to use it? That Landing ship with the Four Hovercrafts, doesn’t add anything to the maritime status, it is probably quite useless against far-off countries, yet they build it… It would be much better to build a Tarawa or Wasp class LPD, that would make them come closer to being a maritime power. What I mean is, there are quite some indications that all these new ships seem to be perfectly fit for the Taiwan operation. And of course there is the 094, when that becomes active and starts succesfully testing its ballistic missiles, do you think US would still support Taiwan? I don’t think so…
Did anyone in the last twenty years rebuild a frigate for land-bombardments? We’re not sure about 516, but it sure looks like a shore bombardment ship now. 9 amphibs in 2 years?

Neither does mine, But I’ll kick your amphibs back to the bottom if they come near me 😀
However, what I really meant is that it’s becoming too obvious that they are going to charge Taiwan soon… That new 516 upgrade? That doesn’t have any use unless you’re going to attack land with it. That new Hovercraft carrying thing? Can’t go out for more than four days I suppose, so its target must be very close to Mainland China…

Hyperwarp, the ships you encircled are Amphibious vessels. The “VDS thingy” is just the ramp to load the vessels. So, no better ASW capability for PLAN :p , yet that amphibious capacity is getting frightening.
In your first picture you can see 168 or 169 laying the back too, just between those too ships with the dark-painted bulb (Band Stand ?).

Oh, I see. Yes I suppose so. IR seekers need that little window. The thing without the window and without the torpedo remains a mistery though… I just suppose it’s a mock-up to fool us. My source is ex-Soviet and worked on a ship with this system and if he doesn’t know it…

huh? Do you know wether surface ships use this too? Haven’t seen that before… Then it should be applied from torpedo tubes. Or do you mean “decoy” in general? Does a torpedo think about getting active? I thought it was an approximation on the distance and then become active. Or at a certain range?!

That seems a very narrow minded view. If we are more advanced in space travel than some species then it is also possible that others are vastly more advanced than us. As I said when I raised this thread previously, I am convinced that compared with some we have achieved the spacefaring equivalent of the Wright Brothers or at best Louis Bleriot.

Well on the narrow minded thing, that’s not my problem, that’s the problem of the people living with me 😀
Yet, of course I do not rule out the possibility of things being more advanced than us. Of course not, I just forgot to mention that. That’s because of my narrow mind, I start thinking on one path, the one that enters my mind first and go further on that. And later on I forget to follow that other path next to it…
However, do you think they would pay us a visit and just let us do our thing? I don’t think so. You’ve nearly proven that now. You have more knowledge (or at least I think you do) than I have in this space travel thing. But you want to show that to me, you correct me and show me something. Wouldn’t the “other, vastly more advanced creature” do the same when it comes here? Trying to correct us or erase us, whatever it needs are. As a child you are also playing with Ant Nests and other tiny creatures, I think this sadistic nature might be in that other spacecreature too…
Just some thoughts though. Need to get some new atlas to find my other paths now.

    huh?
Ah, I mean it lacks the long-range guidance radar for more missiles. It has one Top Dome/Volna radar, which can guide 4 up to 6 missiles at a time. That’s quite few. So, if you put more VLS modules with more missiles, that won’t really make a difference if you’re facing a saturation attack. The only thing that extra capacity would do is make your ship longer independant in regards to reloading these missiles. It’ll make your ship capable of staying in the fight longer (if it’s only moderately attacked). Conclusion, it doesn’t really make it a better AD ship. And of course that Volna is placed aft, only having a 180° cover…

I think we’re not alone either. But I don’t believe the other guys are as advanced as us or at least not further then us. This could be perfectly possible. And of course they would be as stupid as us to go out and find us… It takes us a lot of effort to make a short leap to Mars, now how would these other guys find us? Maybe they’re trying to do just the same thing as us, making their short leap.

As everything seems to be repetitive, constellations, universe etc. I think there are just some groups larger than universes. I suppose something like Man in Black, the end of that movie… 😀

As for Steve, we don’t put light on our recon craft because we land or know the stuff that’s below them. If you’re going to another planet you’d like to know what’s beyond your feet don’t you? Wouldn’t like to land in water if you’re used to land on rocks… Or you’re trying to land on a good flat piece of land but then that little stupid piece of pointy rock protrudes your landing pillow. Of course they might have more advanced equipment to find out what’s below them given they have the technology to build something that can reach our planet. But, I don’t believe in UFOs 😀
