    Claire Lee Chennault

What about Claire Lee Chennault and his Flying Tigers in China/Burma/India.? They were really up against it in P-40’s that were arguably not as good as the Jap Zero at a time when the Japs were supreme in Asia.

May not have “turned the tide” but sure proved that when the P-40 fought to its strengths, it could give a hard time to the Zero.

    RE: Cuisine ?

In a way you are right SAAB, what passes of as indian food in the west is by and large a poor imitation of Indian food, both in variety and taste ( I dont mean to generalise, there are great Indian restraunts in Europe and the US ).

There are mind boggling variations, with each state having its own distinct cuisine. To make it more palatable for Western tongues Indian food in the west is a bit bland. If you want to taste the real McCoy try genuine “Andhra” food. Man I assure you there will be steam coming out of your ears.

    Chicken Vindaloo comes from Goa.

RE: What is the greatest WWII fighter?

Just for argument sake the P-61 did shoot down V-1’s in Europe. What attracts me is their long endurance loitering over the Japanese mainland from bases in Saipan. Endurance was one of the main virtues of WW-2 night fighters. Lets be fair to the P-61, it really didnt have time to come into its own.

In the med-bomber role I’ll stick by the Mitchell, I want to see a Mosquito take off from the deck of a carrier, or skip-bomb ships or get its nose fitted with 12 * 0.5 cal mg’s for CAS duties. Lets not forget it was successful in every theatre it went into.

I would have liked to see how the Mosquito with its partial wodden construction have fared in humid topical conditions like the pacific. It was great for Europe, but would have had maintenance problems in this part of the world

So whilst the mosquito being a more acurate bomber for sheer versatility and ruggedness I’d give it to the B-25.

RE: What is the greatest WWII fighter?

In my opinion the P-51 Mustang for versatility and long range which the Spit didnt have and the German Fw-190 D9 for the same reasons.

Carrier borne a/c would be a toss up between the F-4 Corsair and the F-6 Hellcat.

As a heavy bomber the B-29 Superfort was untouchable.

The Me-262 selects itself as the best jet as there was no other competition.

Nightfighter trophy would go to the P-61 Black widow.

    Light bomber – Mosquito / Ju-88.

    Medium bomber – B-26 Mitchell

    RE: Whats your favourite car?

If I had real big bucks I would go for an Aston Martin Vantage V12 engine.

For slightly lesser bucks it would be the Merceds-Benz E- class with engine tuning from Brabus. This is the fastest road going sedan in the world Max speed 333 Kmph also known as the “Bahn stormer” and Terminator.
