the ww1 aircraft were moved to krakow from the berlin tech museum to avoid damage during the bombing of the city during ww2,sadly the wings did not reach their destination.
the museum is on the site of an original aerodrome used by the polish, german, and russian airforces.the spitfire etc are housed in an origal pre war hanger.
this museum is outstanding as to have so many one off and rare aircraft and all the exhibits are very easily accessible.
i would recommend the trip out to krakow to anyone.
in the airport check in area there is a ful scale replica of what if i remember is right is the first indiginous aircraft built in rumania (hung up in the ceiling).enjoy rumania it’s a wonderfull country.

when i was an air cadet we got a firestreak out of the dump at halton, put it in the back of a raf ambulance (ford transit) to get it back to the accomidation block up the hill.to get the thing back to our own HQ at the end of the camp we threaded it through the coach and it had the back seats all to itself.it’s now on display outside 134SQN HQ at cardington, beds, and can be seen from the road.
only relaying what has been told to us as a club.i assume the bikes and cars from brooklands are being demonstrated, albeit slowly and in a safe manner so as not to upset anybody.

i would have been going, but the health and safety NAZI’S have stopped us from running the bike and car sprint/speed demo.it seems that it’s acceptable for an aeroplane to fly towards the crowd, go out of control an smash into the massed ranks of admiring public, and not for me to ride away from the crowd, in a cloud of two stroke smoke and approach a speed of 80 mph.in complete safety.
it’s a shame really as any forumites would have been made more than welcome in the paddock.

oh dear, silence from the great and the good on the forum.either you are all researching the answer, checking long forgotten documents, listening to veterans memiors on tape(eight track),or e-mailing around the world to the ME262 experts to gather the necessary information so as to give a comprehensive answer.or no one knows.
for more info read wolfgang hirschfeld – the diary of a u boat.
the boat was captured at portsmouth, new hampshire on or around 19 may 1945 along with its cargo of INTERESTING crew and goodies.

fantastic bike.so much better to have put the engine to some practical use and not in some museum, stuck in a dark forgotten corner, covered in dust and no one knowing or caring what it is.
