Don’t worry Keltic, LH have proved they can handle it!
To give you another sleepless night, you have probably seen the Swissair ‘incident’!:D
Yes, I have :-).
Anyway, I this case I don´t know if the pilot is hero or not. I don´t know how it works, and I hope someone could clarify it. The pilots have a forecast, I suppose the tower has to give updates of the changes, and then with the information decides what to do.
Under which circustantes are these approaches safe, or under control?. I have never understood, the words “ladies and gentlemen we are going to attempt……”. Attempt?. I suppose, in aviation there´s no “attempt” but operating in limits where these surprises can be ruled absolutely.
So should the pilot have diverted?. In an approach like this, are the passangers safe?. I don´t see it very clear. Anyone familiar with this stuff?.
I wonder why they even to try to approach. I have watched similar things over here, (as spotter) and been on board a couple of times (not that serious), but I usually cancel when I have to fly in that conditions.
I don´t mind, if the pilots tell me that´s pretty safe, I know it´s not.
It´s really impressive. And I am flying in 14 days time. FR plus LH 😡
Keltic if you make your plans in such a way that the flights are all day flights its a much better experience. SQ leaves Singapore in the morning at 9:55 am i think, for all three MEL, SYD and ADL. I have done this route alot of times and found the day flights being much much less tiring.
What about Kingfisher or Jet Airways instead 🙂 An stopover in India could be a nice option too.
I’d highly recommend BA First Class on this route, if the purse strings can stretch! 😀 😀
Well, it could, but I am not sure if it´s worthy. Flying is even scarry in First Class 🙂
Just a question. Who would be the responsible, Boeing or Rolls Royce?.
Thanks again for the ideas. From here only STN, but LHR connection is not hard. Easier than CIA, HAHN, LPL, DUB or CDG other international hubs.
Or sleeping pills with acohol, or avoid DVT, remain awaken, and walking around.
The idea of a “Round the world” trip could be nice, if I enjoyed flying, which is not the case. Anyway, I think making two separate segments with a night rest, could be a bit more expensive but much nicer.
MAD-BKK, and then BKK-SDY.
Thanks guys. I suppose from North Spain, the FRA and Bangkok or Singapur conection sounds quite good. They might allow stopovers and sleeping a night someone in the middle. Time to relax and disconnect.
fares are still too high to compete with flight. It´s being a paradox, that AVE is being used by businessmen and plane by people seeking to pay less for their trips.
Sad indeed, but I don´t know if it´s a relief, but he died probably doing what he most liked it.
Two years ago, I went to Thailand, and one of the members of our group had a heart attack and died. His wife was quite calm, and she kept us saying that despite having a heart disorder he insisted in travelling, and that it would be nice for him dieing enjoying his life.
He just fainted and that was all. Life is like this, and we have to be prepared for finding the “black lady” in any corner of this world. He have to live every single moment as if it were the last one. No tomorrow, but today.
Iran Air ones?
Merida lies in the upper side of the Andes. When I was around the area some years ago, I was surprised about the wildness of the area, and the orography. Also I realized that the weather was rough, changable and quite alpine with frecuent fogs, peaks surrounded by clouds, and lack of visibility.
We got into Merida on a 4X4 vehicle and I remembered the airport, and how the planes had to land in the middle of high peaks. It was not Bhutan or San Martin de los Andes, or even Cuzco, but pretty nasty.
The only visible thing is a huge and moving image of the Virgin Mary on top of high mountain which dominates everything. That´s to say, I wonder why there wasn´t any crash before in the area. Quite hard.

Advertising video. Nothing new. A Siemens ICE-300 which is currently running in Germany. Although we have local brand of High Speed train, german material was purchased.
Well in here, only in regional ones which don´t have the date printed on them and are “open”. But long distance with reservation you lose the money.
If you change anything or cancel it, you have a 10% penalty.
Well, Steve. I think that they are in a middle of an identity crisis. They have been cornered by low costs, Universal Airlines (by AF and AEA) is about to start operations, and CRJ is not really cost effective.
They can´t purchase bigger aircraft since they have a deal with Iberia pilots trade unions not to go for bigger planes. They have been trying to introduce CRJ900 in many profitable niches, and putting fares down. For the moment, they have the Iberia protective umbrella, and are trying to diversify business by participating in Clickair.
Spains is not disorganized yard where nobody has definite plans where they should go to. So there´s a deep feeling of uncertainty. Air Nostrum is a fine airline, so I am sure if they will be able to survive. They make profits but their market is shrinking. They even have many problems in finding niches to put their planes into.
When someone finds there´s traffic, a low cost gets in and they have to quit, or use a Clickair flight. Now they are very dependant on subsidies. If you fly them the fuselage has advertisments, the seat a different one, they handed out brochures of a different thing, advertising in the tissues, or magazine, and flight attendants tell…”fly to…..”, A kind of a regional big flying piece of advertisment.
But they are not getting more, since many regions are feed up of spending money on an airline which offers high fares which are no accesible by most middle class spaniards. fares have gone down, but not enough. If the put them down more and more, they surely die.
Do you get your money back if you miss a train?
Not in Spain 🙂
