RE: Spanair flight crash lands at LPL

Well are thinking that the undercarriage collapsed due to technical faults. But many times, a gust of wind makes the aircraft go against the tarmac in such a violent way that it makes the undercarriage to fold back again.

RE: BA gets rid of it’s tacky tails!

Unfortunately the nice ethnic tails are going to be replaced by a patriotic and shabby livery: an agly ribbon twice. Flags should be for official use, acts of patriotism, waving them at Eurovision song contest, and other situations. Airlines aren´t national any more since most of them are private and doesn´t represent anyone or any country. For years they have acted with an untolerable monopolism, make regions to feel isolated, searching their own welfare and not taking into consideration people´s needs. BA or IB in mya case are not symbols of national pride and will not represent me. I will be with the one which will be able to satisfy my needs any time I travel, and I don´t feel impresed by having this or that flag on their fuselages. As far as I am concerned I don´t see why BA is more British than Airtours, JMC or Monarch. Let´s keep flags and nationalism away from aviation, a globalized world and many of us would be grateful. As fas as I am concerned and since BA is not the world´s favourite airline any more, I will change my preferences to more balanced and reasonable airlines like BD. The 80 colours were nicer.

It´s something really odd. I have to say that Spanair is quite a good airline with fantastic safety records. Although they are flying a bit old MD82/83 the maintenance is really careful. Technical issue and crews training is directly supervised by SAS which owns almost half of the airline. I don´t want to solve them, but I want to say….they are serious guys.

Well by chance I could know that the IB plane involved, was
the DAILY FLIGHT TO MY HOMETOWN SCQ. INCREDIBLE. It was a MD87.

    RE: South Atlantic Airways

It´s a joint venture Russian-Spanish with Spanish (Canary Islands) money. They have leased planes B757-200 from Arkia and plan to operate in the English charter sector in direction to the Canaries and other destinations. They haven´t received any plane yet. I was in Tenerife and knowbody (at the airport) know anything about them yet.

    RE: Being customer oriented.

I suppose it´s a question of customers respose to airlines and popularity. In American and European airlines there are no problems of image, safety and so on, so people prefer flying with them, so customer service is a bit reluctant. But other airlines, are not so reputed and have to relay in a fantastic service to balance it. On the other way, service and hospitality is quite in the heart of the middle and far east countries, in europe is glamour and image and americans prefer suitable conections to service. I think that airlines are a perfect mirror of their respective countries. Obviously one can´t generalize and it´s a theory.

    RE: American, Continental or United?

Well I wouldn´t fly on an American airline again, because my experiences were quite frustrating: rude behaviour, bad service, old planes sometimes…..But if you want to, I would recommend American.

Never. The program has been cancelled due to the lack of interest in the model by the airlines.

    RE: Aeroplane Crashes

Safety surveys are senseless is terms of proving is an airline is safe or not, having a crash in which the airline couldn´t be responsible at all makes a certain airline goes down in the rank in an unfair way. Are SIA, SR less safe for having a crash?, I don´t think so. Having no crashes doesn´t mean anything at all.

That´s right Kabir¡, it´s one of the situation which doesn´t amuse me at all. Knowing if the altimeter is right, if the GWPS works, if the altitude is the right one…..uffff, not fun at all.

    RE: 747-400 versus MD 11 versus A-340

Well both are good planes. Í´ve flown both and depends on the number of seat set in economy. What I want for transatlantic flights is a four engines plane. So no way ETOPS and A330 or B777. If four engines are better than two, why should we use to two although it´s more economic?.

Recent Psycological surveys have pointed that many fearfull passengers tend to drink a lot and get out of control when they fly. In any case, this not an excuse for such behaviour. Something radical measures need to be taken.

    RE: A380

Traveling long haul flights is experiencing innovations. Beds, lounges were considered reduntant when the B747 was put into service (even the upper section was used to put more seats). It seems that all first classes were being replaced by Business-First, but Air France had the fantastic idea of setting almost beds and the situation changed. Now we are seeing constant changes in noble classes, even so rare as Virgin ideas. The A380 will bring new possibilities if they can keep the operation with only 500 quite profitable. Can you imagine operating costs lower then on a B747 an extra space for luxuries?. Of course some companies will cramp seats, but many will offer radical ideas in the plane. Passengers are demanding more space, no more Economy class syndromes and even are willing to pay more for a change.
