    Gulf Air Forces

A dassault mirage F1 from Qatar during the 1990/1 gulf war.

Behind it is an even rarer beast, an F1 from the ephemeral “Free Kuwait” Air Force. That was the bits of the KAF that evaded the Iraqi invasion and continued the fight from Saudi bases. Not many pics of those, unfortunately.

it was taken in Luano. The man in the cockpit was Katanga’s president Moise Tshombe himself! Here a few more pictures I hope you like them.
the man in the third picture is the Belgian mercenary Joseph Delin

Thanks for all those photos. I never expected that pictures would have survived from those times.

This whole sad saga is for me an epitome of how well-meaning idiots with Great Good Ideals can in reality cause endless harm to poor people on this planet. What a miserable undertaking and what a stupid outcome. UNO secretary Dag Hammarskjöld and all the well-meaning idiots who followed him can be proud of their acts and consequences. All the suffering of the Congolese people is their direct doing, from then to Mobutu to Kabila to the next generation.
    Blech.

There was a grand total of TWO magisters in the Katangese AF…

    IAI Arava

    1. I think she will mate, she’s asleep atm (it’s 02:42 here atm) so what I’ll do is save it as a wall paper and suprise her with it!!

And maybe when she wakes up she could check for any pics of an Arava during the 1973 YKW. A number of planes were commandeered by the IAF and used for casevac on the south front. I am looking for a pic of these.

Also pics of Arava with armament fitted, like on the attached painting. But preferably a real photo.

    2. Swaziland mate you almost win the cake, if you can provide a Lesotho Defence Force C212-300 I’ll declare you the ultimate champion!

:EDIT: Also if you can find a pic of a Kenyan AF F-5 with Nose guns firing, I will not only call you champion but not worthy of anything less than godhood!

    Sorry. I don’t have this.

    Swaziland Arava

My missus is gonna love you, she loves the Arava!

She does? A lady of taste.

Maybe she’ll enjoy this one: it can’t get much more exotic than the Swaziland air force…

Psst the country is El Salvador…the major city is San Salvador

Indeed. What a nice and gentle correction, too. Thanks.

Here is a uniquely salvadoreño plane, a homemade AC-47.
