RE: american airports
Yes, I also agree that American airports are bad especially the shopping facilities. This is probably because many of their airports were built during an era in which shopping and passenger comfort were not considered to be high priority.
The new airports emerging in the Far east such as KL and HK have clearly been designed to accommodate all the needs of the passengers and not the airline crew.
RE: worst ever flight
Mine was on Air India from London to New York on one of their old 747s in August 1998. I was seated in business class on the upper deck and if that was anything to go by then I would not like to have been in economy.
The seats looked and felt as if they had been rescued from a jumble sale and when I reached for the personal televsion I just found loose wires. The crew were pleasant but lacked that certain air of professionalism ie at times, I really did feal as if I were in the middle of a Indian jumble sale.
RE: your favorite airplane
My favoruite is the A340 because they are comfortable and compared with the B777, they are not so noisy.
RE: giving birth…on board a 737
Although, I do not know the answer, I understand that if you give birth on a BA flight, then the child is entitled to free flights for life. This used to be the tradition and I wonder if it is continuing in these days of corporate management?
RE: Delta Airlines
Yes, I have heard mixed reports about the Northwest service and so it will be good to experience it for myself. I am also looking forward to finally flying on one of their DC-10’s. Although, I appreciate that they are old now, I just wanted to fly on a DC-10 before they are retired or converted to cargo planes.
RE: Delta Airlines
I have travelled with Delta and apart from some of their planes being old, the service was quite good. I was lucky enough to travel on their business elite service from London to Atlanta and I was impressed with the overall business class product. The seats were extremely comfortable with a 60 inch pitch and the menu and wine list were extensive.
Compared with other American Airlines that I have flown ( AA, Continental) I was also impressed with the professionalism and friendliness of the cabin crew. In October, I get to fly on Northwest and so I will see how they compare
RE: Frontier tail designs
The Frontier tail designs are certainly interesting and fun but at the same time it is still possible to understand what they stand for – they avoided the pitfalls made by BA and their world designs.
RE: British Midland
British Midland has commissioned design consultants, Landor Associates to look at re-branding the airline. This is because BM believes that their current image and name is too ‘narrow’ for the US market which is their next growth market. Many people consider the name “British Midland” too parochial and regionally restrictive. BM hope that the new branding will have an internatiional flavour that will apeal to the US market.
Lets hope that they avoid the mistakes made by BA with their recent branding.
RE: British Airways Tails
LAST EDITED ON 24-Aug-00 AT 06:56 PM (GMT)[p]I thought that the ethnic scheme was a big PR and marketing disaster. The Nelson flag scheme is my preferred scheme for BA – it is modern whilst retaining the historical link.
RE: Favourite & worst looking airliner of all time
my vote goes to the classic Jumbo
RE: WHY I WOULDN’T PAY AIR NEW ZEALAND IN WASHERS
on your next visit, why not try Malaysian Airlines – the service and food are excellent. You can fly LHR to KL, take a Qantas flight to Auckland and then return on MH from Auck to KL and then back to LHR
RE: SABENA
I frequently fly with Sabena from London to the USA and Canada. Although this entails a transit in Brussels, I consider this to be a small inconvenience for the excellent service ( and beer)
The main fault with Sabena is that they use Virgin Express to fly passengers from London Heathrow to Brussels to connect with onward flights. The service and food on Virgin Express is awful and they now rate as one of my worst airlines. Also, many of the 737’s are old and the seats uncomfortable.
Sabena on the other hand has aquired new A330s in which the seating and inflight entertainment is excellent.
Perhaps, Airliner World will write a report on Sabena – this might help to persuade other people that Sabena is not as bad as they are portrayed.
