The reduction gear is Bristol Pegasus, fitted with a De Havilland constant speed controllable pitch airscrew which was fitted to the Hampden, Wellington, Sunderland ect but not the Swordfish as this had a fixed pitch metal prop.

    i stand corrected

Absolutely fascinating! I think I could take / waste many hours looking at Google Earth. I noticed that some the images are from 2005 so I’m guessing that some of the aircraft shown are probably ‘dead’ by now, although I was suprised to see plenty of older types, B-57’s, Convairs, Trackers, Tracers and lots of Phantoms.

    Wonderful… trying to find that KC97 🙂

all bar 15 of the Tomcats are gone now, the scrapping has been prolific to try and stop the IRIAF getting a hold of any parts from them, as they were and still are the only other Tomcat operator, the 15 left are the only ones with any decent remaining fatigue life.

im told all the Trackers,Tracers,Convairs and B-57’s are gone, the number of F-4’s is steadily declining as the best preserved examples are returned to flight for drone duties and the rest are broken up for spares for the drones and many other US friendly F-4 operators.

the B-1B’s that were retired are mostly now scrapped or missing large sections and heavily spares recovered.

the Meteor T7’s wooden intake lips are starting to suffer a bit, still full credit to the team for keeping them in such good nick, especially the Bucc, she looks superb!

though not an aviation related passing, I’d like to raise a glass to my grandmother who passed at 95 years, an amazing woman and a life well lived
