Wasn,t Hartman involved with getting the program up and running?
Erich Hartmann was a very outspoken opponent to the German F-104 program as I recall, and eventually resigned from the Luftwaffe over it, having clashed a number of times with senior brass about the jet
I had in my hand today a copy of the agreement between British Aerospace and the Shackleton Preservation Trust detailing the purchase of all rights and titles to the drawings and design of the aircraft type “Avro Shackleton”, and of the purchase of the drawings themselves…
Does this mean then that if such a thing were ever to come to pass, that the SPT has full design authority over the Shack?
i do have some pics about from the crash during the recovery phase, basically all the big bits were taken but a lot of small pieces were left behind, by the looks of the photos and evidence left today she burned pretty fiercely
Australia, wanted the Hawker P.1081 (a Super Hunter if you will)
Got: Hyper modified F-86 Sabres
As promised at long last chaps!
First off, heres the information board situated just up the hill along the main walking track but not on the site itself, nor is the cairn & plaques in the second pic, the site itself is further down the hillside

Although being almost 74 years to the day since the crash, the hole the doomed DC-2 punched in the tree canopy is still clear to see, though now elevated slightly from the original entry point by growth

there are still trees present that were broken by the aircraft as she struck, this one was bent forwards by the plane then blown backward when she exploded upon striking the mountain itself, the only trees that showed fire damage are in this particular spot and many still have gouges from the impact
Found in exactly the same spot as the screws and glass i came upon on my last visit, instrument glass from her cockpit
Main impact point, where the nose struck and disintegrated, the glass and screws were found in this area, along with a piece that may have come from a windscreen.
The true tragedy of it all, the summit of the mountain would be barely 200ft above the crash site
im planning to return to the site on the 25th of the month to lay some flowers for the 74th anniversary of the crash
