What is its particular significance? A relief that no lives were lost, of course.
No idea, best ask ZRX61 he started the thread. (admittedly in wrong place) and as it had 203 views, I just thought that members might be interested in the outcome. So posted it here in general discussion.
Not sure wether, I will bother posting on this forum again, as all I seem to do is get negative replies.

PeeDee – I am sure I remember 1/11, 3/11, 17/11 and 18/11 and so on, long ago. I think it has always been with us hasn’t it?
I believe that the penny short of the pound, was introduced when tills became common place, so that the person on the till had to open the till to give the customer a penny change instead of slipping the money into their pocket, without registering the sale.

Gawd, you went on a route march to get those answers.
The actual rise is 2.13%. 360 / 352.5.
The 2nd bit of your workings is not correct. You still need 4.26% pay rise to cover it.
Petrol, core cost from Shell etc. 39p per litre, Duty 68p, then the robbing filthscums put vat on the LOT. Yes, a tax on a tax! By any stretch of a law, the VAT should be on the core only. Still……MUSTN’T GRUMBLE.
Sorry PeeDee but I still don’t know where my sums are wrong.
you first quoted that
The Core price of £300 was £352 will now be £360. The punter is £8 worse off. 360/352 is 2.27%. Oh joy.
Now you say the rise is 2.13% 360 /352.5.
Yet when I try with the calulator 2.13% of 352.5 comes to 7.50825
So really what I am asking is how do we work out the proper percentage.
so I can check that each retailer is adding the correct amount to each item.

You are splitting hairs here. The Core price of £300 was £352 will now be £360. The punter is £8 worse off. 360/352 is 2.27%. Oh joy.
Help! Where have my calculations gone wrong I just don’t seem to get the same answers as everyone else.
1st Jan 2011 a £300 item has 17.5% VAT added to it.
17.5% of a £100 = £17.50 X 3 = 52.50 + 300 Item costs £352.50.
5th Jan 2011 a £300 item has 20% VAT added to it.
20% of £100 = 20 X 3 = 60 + 300 item costs 360.00 so item is £7.50p dearer.
So difference between 20% and 17.5% is 2.5%. So in theory the item has gone up by 2.5%
However 2.5% of £352.50 by working out by the same way.
2.5% of 100 = 2.5 or £2.50 per £100 so on £300 2.5% should equal £7.50.
2.5% of 50 = 1.75
2.5% of £2 or 200p = 5p so added together a 2.5% rise in the price of the 352.50 item.
Should be £9.30.
Yet when I try it with a calculator I get £8.8125p as 2.5% of £352.50.

Re; service records some records can be obtained without being the next of kin. This depends on when the person died, and would cost £30. Records can also take up to six months before you receive them.

Comedy moment this morning on the way to work…0600 – I was ‘clever’ enough to use my usual back road around petersfield
Get nearly to top of hill!car stops in spite of using normal uphill driving technique – front wheels spinning at idle and going nowhere LOL,. nobody around of course !
So I had to get out of the car (wheels still spinning at idle :D) and give her a wee push….and then scramble back in as the tyres got traction…I only had to push her a yard (1 metre).
That would have been a good conversation with the insurance company if I had mistimed it !!
”Who was driving” ?…err nobody actually :D:D:D

You might just be lucky and find the oil filter lose.
When was this last changed, If recently then may not have been tightened correctly. If not changed for a long while may have developed a leak. Had it happen to me once, started as a pin prick and slowly got bigger. Had to do an emergency repair, till I got a new one. used an old baked bean tin and jammed it over to top of the old filter. 😀
