I got the Blackbird in the mail last Thursday, it’s very impressive. The only major nitpick as far as detail is concerned is that the engine intake cones are aligned straight forward and not canted down and in like they should be. Apart from that, the model is pretty much spot-on, very large, and very well done. Given that it is constructed primarily in two halves, forward fuselage and rear section with the break being where the wings begin to taper out from the chines, they should have no problems retooling this basic shell into either an A-12 or YF-12 model. Although forget that, in this scale I want to see 06940 done up in natural metal and black with the D-21 on the back 😀 Anyway, this thing is about a foot long and takes up space but looks way too sinister sitting on a shelf. Mine is currently residing next to a diecast UD-4. The only drawback to the model apart from the sheer size (some people might want a smaller scale for ease of display I guess) is that the jet can’t be mounted on the stand with the gear down. The main gear doors interfere with the stand’s mounting, but that’s no big deal. If you can find one, and have $120 to shell out for it, get one, because I’m willing to bet that they go fast and sell out in short order like a lot of the Century Wings models tend to do.
Seriously, with bigger production runs, these guys could toss Dragon Wings right out on their rears as the preeminent 1/72 diecast modelers. They already have them beat hands down in accuracy and detail. I’ve got one of their F-14As as well and it’s just no contest, nobody else even comes close.
