    Yes but the term Raptor was chosen because of it’s relation to birds of prey, not dinosaurs. Follows Fighting Falcon and Eagle.

    Has anyone ever found a picture of a Falcon missile in Greek (or Turkish for that matter) hands? Both of them employed the F-102 for a time and the only weapon option was the AIM-4 or conventional AIM-26. I’m working on a history of the Falcon missile program and am trying to nail down what variants Greece (and Turkey) operated.

    Yes it’s a scale model, I wonder what they’ve been doing with it.

    Flow testing to determine the sonar signature?

    On a related note, is this class fitted with Yakhont?

    Seen sub launched config. (I’d think ground-launched would be similar).

    Sub and ground launched variants used a booster derived from the first stage of the RS-10M ICBM.

    Where can we find pics of the sub launched meteorite ?

    Therre’s a video available on the web detailing a lot of the Meteorit’s history. Shows what appear to be some sub-launch segments. Pretty amusing stuff.

    Also isn’t the 41F dimensionally different from the AL-31F/117C series- so how do you propose they shoe-horn it into the PAK-FA?

    Maybe the same way they had to stick the D30F6 into the Su-47 when they were told they wouldn’t be getting AL-41Fs? Or perhaps the first bird will be more akin to the MiG 1.44, a basic demonstrator to begin validating systems and basic aerodynamic properties, fitted with the 117S engine? If they knew beforehand that they’d be using the 117S on the first jet they could use a different engine on later test and production models.

    When was that slide produced? I don’t think it shows that they slid the intakes back a bit. But you can still see that they did change a lot of the airframe, particularly reprofiling the entire nose area. The USAF Museum has sent the YF-22 away (I think to the Smithsonian) because they now have an F-22A on display (one of the EMD birds). It would’ve been nice to keep both of them to see just how different the two jets really are side by side.

    Do you know what happened to those sand covered 25’s the OZ forces uncovered?

    I think one of them, an RB, was sent to the USA, but it wasn’t an OZ-discovered FOXBAT. It has appeared in the Air Force Museum’s restoration facility being prepped for display, meaning that NASIC at Wright Patterson has likely already pored over the jet to find anything amusing.

    Two rumored applications for “plasma stealth” are the Keldysh device intended to reduce an aircraft’s radar signature, and the Marabou device fitted to the Meteorit cruise missile.

    Then again, i am not sure that some ELINT have not done its job already and refreshed the threat library up to thse systems…

    There are HQ-9 sites near Nanjing that might be within range of an offshore ELINT collector, and there’s always the possibility that the HQ-9 has been deployed in the Fuzhou-Shantou coastal area. The S-400 is another beast, pointing the radars at Kapustin Yar may or may not result in sidelobe emissions powerful enough to collect on for a platform operating in or over the Black Sea.

    Russia most likely will suffer some delays on the pak-fa program due to engine technologies. It would be ironic that the very same problem India has on their LCA program also stalls them getting a pak-fa version of a fighter.

    I’m not sure about that, the AL-41F (the original AL-41, powering the MiG 1.44) was a heavily researched design. Surely an offshoot of that powerplant would be suitable for the PAK-FA?

    I’m not disagreeing with you, just pointing out that European public opinion shouldn’t be a deciding factor if the US goes to war. Anyway, back on topic now 😀
