I’m with you Nermal! Woo Hoo Were safe! 😀
“Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer
had a very shiny nose (like a lightbulb!)
and if you ever saw it,
you would even say it glows.
All of the other reindeer
use to laugh and call him names (like pinocchio!)
they never let poor Rudolph
join in any reindeer gaaaames (like monopoly!)
Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say (HOHOHO)
Rudolph- with your nose so bright-
won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?
Then all the reindeer loved him (those two faced bas tards)
as they shouted out with glee (YIPPEE!!)
Rudolph the red nosed reindeer-
You’ll go down in HI-STO-RYYYYYY!!!!!!”
Because of their pacifist beliefs, since WWII the Amish have been allowed to fulfill their military “duty” in civil service posts. Whether this held true through the Vietnam years, I don’t know. But it still does today.
Here Flood-
“How true was the portrayal of the Amish in the movie Witness, starring Harrison Ford?”
“The movie, Witness, portrayed Amish lifestyle fairly accurately in what was shown, but it portrayed a very limited segment of Amish lifestyle. The Amish people have had a lot of reservations about Witness. The plot seemed to be inconsistent with the lifestyle and culture of the Amish. It was filmed in the geographical area of the Amish, but not on an Amish farm. The actors and actresses in the movie were not Amish.”
Ah..but websites about the Amish? Plenty.
“The Amish live within self-sufficient communities and do not collect Social Security, unemployment, or welfare benefits. According to their religious beliefs, paying Social Security, an insurance premium for the elderly, is tantamount to not “taking care of their own.” Amish people who are self-employed are not obliged to pay Social Security tax, but they do still pay all other taxes, including property, income, and sales tax. If an Amish person decides to work outside of the community, he or she must also pay Social Security tax like any other American.” http://ask.yahoo.com/ask/20030821.html
There was more, but I figured this would suffice.
The Amish and Mennonite do not usually serve in the military, as far as taxes…I don’t know. I suppose I’ll google it.
Flood- thanks for posting those pics- nice to keep the memories fresh. 😀
Awesome, picture Snapper- but, then you knew that… 😉
I’m a chick (hence the name) 😉
Not to touch on a sore point but I guess you couldn’t really call me a “fan” of aviation, though. At least not in the way the rest of you are.
That fourth one down is really nice. Good Job!
Some Samuel L. Jackson flick. Months and months ago.
I like the evil piggies better!
I’ve always enjoyed writing, and poems and songs used to be my favorite (y’know- teen angst stuff) These days I mostly write letters to editors…(they always get printed though!!) lol. Have always wanted to write a book and have made a few halfhearted attempts the last few years, but I don’t think I’m terribly good at formulating plots and characters and such.
I’m considering an English degree and either teaching English or going into editing or something along those lines. Being a journalist has always been a pipe dream- but not sure I want all that goes with it. I’d want to jump right into having my own column on the op-ed pages and I’m sure we can all guess how likely that is!
I’m a great reader and in edition to all the great classics- I love a good modern fiction ,too. Right now I’m reading Tolstoy- Anna Karenina and a great fiction called “Emma’s secret” which is about an English matriarch who built a huge empire and her family (three separate clans) and just their lives and how they change as they learn more about their grandmother (the matriarch) and her life (during WW2, etc.)
And, of course, I love a good argument/debate.
Paper Route when I was 11 or 12. First “real” work was a fast food joint called “Lennys Burgers and Shakes” when I was 14 or 15. $5.00 a hour under the table. (in cash- no taxes) After I got fed up with the management and walked out (the place soon went under) I worked in various food shops until starting the call center thing where I made my first “real” money…$10.00 or so a hour, when I was in high school.
Great shot, Robbo.
I have a VISA Debit and it does me just fine. I can use it as a credit card and anywhere Visa is taken including online and overseas.
No real reason to have a credit card unless you have expensive tastes and aren’t that into delayed gratification…
Hi. I’m sorry! My comment was not directed at or intended for anybody here; however I should have considered it a bit more before posting.
Think I’ve rocked the boat enough and don’t have much intention of taking it further.
Again- sorry.
