Now that is something to be afraid of, a beautiful Russian woman. If any group of women could take over the world and force all the men back into caves, it’s them. 😀

Perhaps had the breakup of the USSR not been so….sudden, if things had been taken slower; if there had been a some sort of timeline; it would have been possible to avoid current tensions in the region. I agree with Putin. The way it was done, and the fallout was a “catastrophe”. But, nothing to do but go forward I suppose and do the best they can. Not sure that’s what he’s doing…but, thats a different topic.

Never a good idea to tell people what you’re afraid of. Could come back to haunt you. That said: I’m terrified of being locked in a room with a Republican Born Again Christian with no sense of humor and a speed addiction. 😀 😮

    J-

I’m decrying Walmarts business practices; not the people who shop there. It was simply in response to what SOC said about a company making money for it’s shareholders. My point was simply that a company with poor business practices (such as Walmart) will lose money for it’s shareholders in the long run, compared to companys with good business practices that make money for the shareholders in the long run.

I have no issue with people who shop at Walmart.

Isn’t the whole point for them to make you more money as a shareholder?

WalMart. Walmart has the lowest prices around. If I still shopped at Walmart I would save a ton of money on groceries.

Walmart pays dirt poor wages, exploits immigrants and demands the absolute lowest prices from their manufactures, who have no choice but to comply becuase Walmart is so huge. These companies either A. Go out of business because they just can’t afford to produce the product anymore. Or B. Begin using cheaper less quality material for their products.

Do I want to shop at a store that has such a bad rap sheet? Do I want to shop at a dirty store with underpaid overworked employees, a store that sells low quality products? Do I want to invest in that kind of business?

No. I want my money to work for me. Whether I’m shopping or investing. I will shop in a clean friendly store that is a litle more expensive. Because I’m assured of A. a pleasant experience and B. Fresh high quality product.

I will invest in a business with a solid customer/employee focused attitude. Because that is how my money will work for me.

A business with bad practices (Walmart) will eventually lose market value and drive investors away, especially with continued negative media coverage. Walmart has actually lost me money in the long run with their poor practices.

But a business with a long traditon of quality customer and employee practices will have a large, loyal customer base, will be around for a long time, and with continued positive results and media coverage will only attract more investors and drive the stock up, making me money.

Which kind of company would you choose?

    🙂

    AAAAAAGH

2 minors and I was failed because I parked slightly oddly 😡

Can’t stand parallel parking, especially on roads that slope like b*ggery at the edges 😡

Don’t feel to bad. I’m American, I’ll probably fail half a dozen times, before I get it right.

Mirror, signal, mirror?! Come on! Just take a quick look over your shoulder, flip the signal, and get over! 😀

By the time I’ve looked in my mirror for the tenth time I’ll probably have missed my exit!

Why not go and tell that to one of the inconvenient jobless, SOC?

Be sure to take your camera – we’d love to share the moment with you!

Well, with you and the paramedics…. :D:D:D

He might want to remove his “Right Wing Conspiracy” member card first- otherwise the paramedics might leave him for the vultures…. 😉 😀

If I’m a shareholder of XYZ Corp., and they can give me more for my investment by sending jobs overseas, then I want them to do so. Nothing is stopping the people who have been laid off from finding another job, here or elsewhere, or getting qualified to work somewhere else.

Unfortunatley, SOC- there is something keeping these people from finding another job, their entire industry is moving jobs to the far east, There are no jobs left for them to get. And how easy do you think it is for a 45 year old person who has been in the same field for 20 years to get qualified for something else? Who pays the mortgage while they go to medical school?

In this day and age it’s asinine to not consider the potential situations you might find yourself in when taking a job, isn’t it? The companys first obligation is to its investors and shareholders.

It is only bad business that works that way, SOC. Trading loyal, trained, skilled employees for people overseas who will work for less. It is a bad business to sacrifice the quality of product for cheaper materials. It is bad business to slap a country in the face, one who’s people have been loyal customers for many years by giving them bad product, made in places where quality does not have to matter. To tell your customers that they do not matter. It is only the bottom line that matters. To tell your employees that they do not matter, only the bottom line matters.

If I’m a shareholder of XYZ Corp., and they can give me more for my investment by sending jobs overseas, then I want them to do so.

As a stockholder (albeit very small) of one company, I would be appalled if that company came to me and laid it out like that. I would drop their stock in a heartbeat.

SOC, you are in the military right? They pay for education, right? Housing, medical, they give some good benefits, yes? Tell me, would you be so understanding if they came to you one day and said “Soldier, we sure do appreciate you fighting for your country, and you done a good thing, but we have these here Afghans who have offered to be loyal soldiers in our army for no benefits, and about a 1/4 of the salary you make, and because your sacrifice means nothing, we only care about the bottom line after all- were going to let you go.” This is obviously a scenario that wont happen in those words, but it is what happens when companies go off shore. Can you honestly say you would be so understanding if it were to happen to you?

“For every dollar spent on offshoring by the US in 2002, the total value derived by the global economy was $1.4 to $1.47.

While 78 per cent of the value, $1.12 to $1.14, was retained in the US, only 22 per cent, $0.33, was accrued to offshoring destinations like India.”

Hmm, for every dollar we spent overseas, our economy got 1.12 to 1.14 back. Looks like it benefits us to me.

And who is “us” SOC? Certainly not the people who lost their jobs because their company outsourced. Those people are currently on foodstamps because they can’t find a job. And the government is about to cut off their unemployments benefits.

So, big business and the government get a return on moving jobs offshore? Thats good for them; however, it certainly doesnt change anything else.

Bingo! Go to the top of the class!

Ah, but does a belief system formed solely on the desire of power and wealth, and based purely on fear last 2,000 years without something real to anchor it?

A new pope is elected and a million people crammed into a 13 mile(?) wide Vatican City openly weep, cheer and pray. Why do they have this need for a deity figure? Why do they have so much faith in this doctrine?

Can something so powerful, so uniting, be nothing but a control mechanism?
