Here are some pics of the South African PR.Mk.IX(LR480) I took at Saxonwold in March this year.Unfortunately the aircraft is covered in dust and appears to be suffering badly from the high humidity in the display hangar.The aircraft is very awkward to photograph .
N11XW was still active in October 2004 according to ‘North American Surivivors’

This was G-ARRV,the Andover prototype which was a conversion of the Avro 748 prototype G-APZV.A sad end for a very historic airframe.When is a 748 going to be preseved in this country?

I think the official explanation was the reflection of the hot sun(yes we do have sunny days in Manchester!) from the highly polished engine cowling onto the fabric of the wing.
