I don’t think you can compair Cd for different aircraft as the desigers may have used different referance areas

Lets assume that the NPL concluded that reduced thickness did not result in reduced drag, I would suggest the most likley reason would lie in the accuracy of the measurement equipment and the tunnel corrections.
Even today Wind Tunnels are a bit of a black art and small drag reductions can be very difficult to quantify- I think history shows that the Hawker wing was an excelant gun platform without which history could have been very different (and not in a good way)

I find this difficult to believe, see http://aerosociety.com/Assets/Docs/Publications/The%20Journal%20of%20Aeronautical%20History/2011-02HermannGlauert-Ackroyd2.pdf for an example of the high level of understanding of wind design at that time.(Journal of Aeronautical History Volume 1, Paper No. 2011/ 2)

Fuel, landing gear , ammo , machine guns and stiffness are more belivable as drivers for thick wings. IMHO

If they are not light weight they could be from a wind tunnel model.

    Filton

    Hi Paul
The Aircraft assembly hall (brab hangar) is not listed, the two First World War buildings on the north side of the runway are and will form a part of the Bristol aero collection including hopefully a new building to house Concorde.
The AAH is being used as warehouse space so is safe for now.

    how are Bloodhounds identified?

manufactures serial number on a data plate located on the main body casting, should be painted on the removable panels also

    The real world

I think we all agree that Filton closing is a sad end to an era, but who would want to pay to keep it open?
BAE wanted too much money for Airbus UK to make a business case to EADS and the cost to the public sector could not be justified.

If a UK company wanted to invest in EADS it might have been possible but who has the money?

No, there was talk of a light aircraft fly in some years before, but it seems like a life time ago 😮

    RAF North Coates

I was stationed there in 1982-1983, no crop spraying took place from the runway during that period

    Jaguars to Goose Green

On the subject of what might of happened I heard that it was under consideration to site Jags at Goose green, fitted in an anti shipping role (TV martel) my question would be, how quickly could we have moved Jags to Goose Green, could a Herc have got in there?
