What a joke, just another move by the Labour Party to undermine britains armed forces.
Personally, its a disgrace and the guy should be chucked over board, with any luck, he may “slip” whilst on deck…. 🙂
Linked to this topic is that of the Royal Navy’s introduction of the JSF STOVL, Although capable of mach1 and probably stealthy + advanced weapons the future carriers will lack AEW Cover and air to air refuelling. Although MASC will help, it really isnt good enough. E2C hawkeye are the single most vital aircraft for any Carrier Battle Group. And given the UK’s refusal to allocate sufficient finance to fund this kind of project i suspect it will like most defence procurement fall well short of requirements.
If the choice was Best interceptor vs AEW, AEW gets my 1st choice every time.
If you are lost in the dark and cant find the light switch its the same kind of analogy. At sea/ air/ land its the same principle and if only the RN could afford it.
The question of trust is a different matter, the fact is simple, British defence spending has been slashed for years, anyone who pledges to increase it has my vote.
Blair says one thing and does another, e.g. he says he is “spending £2bn more” infact he is spending £2bn more and asking for £3bn in savings, so i think he is actually in real terms reducing budget.
There can be no doubt China will become a huge naval power.
This has been going on since the early nineties when the chinese began copying Russian aircraft carriers and other vessels.
I suspect with their new economic might, there will be interesting developments in years to come, perhaps even a new arms race? 😮
It would make sense to increase the numbers of JSFs from 150 to 300, but the current government hates anything to do with defence, but it loves sending the men everywhere to do their dirty work and its a joke.
But yes i agree with you. 🙂
You are right projects like Eurofighter which are a complete waste of money…i understand the RAF Is looking to sell them all before even using them.
Probably the fact that (a) the government has no money hence the persistent stalling on signing the new tranche.
(b) the aircraft is out of date
to be honest, the RAF has spent £20bn on probably less than 200 aircraft
the US recently spent around £3bn on 200 F18 superhornets, given current exchange rates, the RAF would have fantastic value for money, and could save bucket loads and have a far superior aircraft.
But there again i wouldnt expect anyone to think of that…
