@ TomcatVIP
just to scale it, that’s in one single year ten years of laboriously negociated Dassault production with the said minimum sustainable output…
there, corrected it for you 😉
older generation fighters are what they are most likely to encounter. What’s more, if they are well flown, they still are quite potent adversaries ( a thingy going supersonic isn’t easy to intgercept by any standards 😉 )
as for the migs or mirages being old and needing upgrades, if they are bought really cheap, it allows for upgrades to be bought more easily. even the F-16A that you might buy second hand would need some upgrades, but as the airframes won’t be cheap already, it would only make them hardly usable from a financial PoV…
from western air forces? difficult to say..
there probably are a bunch of old airframes tha may be brought back to flyable status for not too much cost in arizona, but then again, if it’s to fly against US aircraft, the USAF/USN/USMC may just as well do it by themselves.
other than that, maybe they could get the old Mirages from Pakistan. there are about 150 airframes that Pakistan had rebuilt and by now would like to retire of they can replace them… as they get more and more JF-17s, these airframes may be interesting maybe (Mach2 capable fighters, that should come so cheap that it would be possible for a reasonable budget to fit them with more modern avionics and make an interesting oponent
Nah, we’ll just buy a lot of chocolate & beer
ROFL!!
you definitely have a great argument there :highly_amused:
As J-20 said: it is a defensive force, and being an island, the primary equipment was for counter-air and anti-ship. As long as you cant approach by air or by sea, they are safe 😉
Growler’s system is for stand off jamming to support the strikers. ASQ-239 is self protection jamming. Huge difference.
I just talked about what’s been posted in his quote… about cognitive treatment of information..
More important, ASQ-239 will be far better than EW on others fighters
considering it’s all classified in every corner on the planet, what you can say from that quote is:
“it will be better than today’s Growler system… for the others, nobody here can tell (and those who can won’t anyway) 😉
quite possible… for the Mirage Mach 2.2 is a top speed it can reach @ 36000ft.. the SR71 never comes so low unless refueling… it normally flies @ 80000ft, having so much excess power that they have to reduce power once above Mach3 in order not to overspeed the aircraft.
Imagine that, one engined, they got a bit lower, about 60000ft, it’s still the operational ceiling for the Mirage and it can be there when supersonic, but nowhere near Mach 2
capable, yes (Mig25 needed still to be caught close enough for missiles to bear which supposes either an error of the Mig or excellent interception guidance for the Mirage but their operating altitudes are in the same range (up to 65000ft), only the top speed of the Mig is significantly higher)
instances of that happening… don’t know… but to have it happening, you need to have an opportunity to do it.. if they don’t meet in combat, you won’t see it, obviously 😉
you don’t make an escort fighter that escorts you only slightly beyond your own border.. the Tu95 has at least 12000km range (even 15000 according to wikipedia), Mig25? 800km at best… at some point, if your bomber has to be alone for more than 90% of its flight, you don’t waste your time to make an escort
besides, there’s no fighter on this planet, even today, that could be a credible escort for the Tu95
I hope Trump socks the UK on F-35 workshare if the UK doesn’t buy the full 138 airframes. Right now the UK is building 15% of each F-35 and that is not justified if they stop orders at something like 48 aircraft.
Now, the UK is a key player in the F-35 program and it would take years to get them rightsized as suppliers, but it can be done at some expense.
you have short memory… UK was supposed to be the primary partner, yet they were excluded from lots of sensitive stuff, RR was supposed to be partner on the F136 (the other engine) that was cancelled by the US regardless of what others may think about it, the parts on “every F-35” are “sold” to plenty of countries, so much that with all the parts built, every F35 could be made two or three times over.. at one moment, if the UK just cancelled their orders in proportion of their workshare reduction, what they ordered until now is too many aircraft already
what do you want as response?
was it considered as escort?
answer: No
And what about those 2 ships? Are those big deck only to play Dominos*?
Fresh Rafales! Fresh Rafales! Buy my freeeesh Rafaaaales!… :D:D:D:D
(relax, just joking 😉 )
one thing that’s really crazy about it is how small the cockpit is… I once had the opportunity to climb in it, with my 1m88, I had the feeling that I strapped the aircraft on my back
so? it comes close to what I said, except that you have a report written by a journo who expresses his PoV – you have in your own link
” Mais Christian Chabbert estime les besoins réels de MCO à 4,1 milliards d’euros par an sur la période 2018-2023.”
“But Christian Chabbert estimates that real needs of MCO are 4.1 billion euros per year for the period 2018-2023.”
the link I gave you publishes the numbers given by the Defence Ministry at the end of Hollande presidency (including the detailed numbers for types of aircraft)
and where did you see me say “everything is fine”? I said the problem is that availability is low because the maintenance isn’t budgeted as much as necessary to have a correctly operational fleet… even your own link says that
