Not ‘Civvie’ – but how about a US-marked version?

    Found this whilst browsing Google:

http://www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk/hunter/survivor.php?id=316 shows a Manston example after torching….. and the serial XJ695. It looks to be in the same gutted state as the one in your photo, so maybe the serial has been ‘doctored’ at manston for whatever reason?

All the aircrew I’ve ever spoken to have spoken highly of the Hunter being a “pilot’s aeroplane” and such a delight to fly… I reckon that speaks volumes for the experience of fast jet pilots, but I know nothing of the reputation of the Hawker Nimrod – so it’s going to be a biased opinion from me I’m afraid?

    H H Bushell & Co, Birmingham

Whilst having a browse through the serial listings on UK Serials website, I came across references to what appeared to have been a scrap dealer / yard going by the name of H H Bushell & Co, Birmingham? Google appears to refer that name to a Jewellers in Birmingham, but no other reference to any involvement with scrap from aircraft?

Does anyone know any more information on this firm, as I’m curious with it being not far from me?

Far from boring Tim…… it’s what forums are all about – sharing the knowledge with those who ask the questions 😀

me thinks the use of the phrase “WW2” in the thread’s title might have been a clue as to the period required…. :diablo:

As well as my aviation background I also repair pc’s on the side having learnt my craft many years ago when Windows didn’t even exist! I’ve got several pc’s here at home dotted around the house, and run XP fine, and Vista fine too actually. All are updated and free of bugs after using various tools of the trade to sort some out. I used to loathe Vista too, but I’m using a high spec mini-tower on Vista right now to write this (it’s my main terminal)? I’m a staunch supporter of XP and I will be very reluctant to let it go eventually…. my two ‘spare’ laptops run it as they are both lower spec machines….

I wouldn’t be in the business of repairing other’s pc’s if there wasn’t a good deal of junk on many people’s pc’s without them even realising it – often the cause of crashes and other issues, which is how I end up with them in for repair. It’s almost 99% software issues these days as hardware is very rarely the problem.
I have used Windows 7 a lot over the last year as I also help with an IT class for mature citizens in my local community centre, and find 7 to be a nice version to use, with very few issues in itself? The driver problems for older hardware will eventually vanish as 3rd party drivers get written, or the hardware gets replaced over time – so not a big deal there…

Windows 8 – forget it – even Microsoft are ditching it after a lot of problems and an interface no-one really liked. It’s not long before the next rollout of a new Operating System so 7 is the biggest OS in the retailers now.

I’m not in any rush to upgrade to anything to be honest – why fix something that isn’t broken etc etc 😉

Well 11 replies isn’t a majority…lol 😉 It has improved since my first post, and I have been logging in at different times of day & night to see if it’s a web traffic thing? I’m writing this reply when it is actually ‘normal’ and changing from one sub-forum to another without a problem – just as it should do?

Hmmm… interesting as I have Adblock on my Firefox so I don’t even see the adverts? Tried it in IE and Firefox on 2 pc’s at the same time – when the forum slows down it is apparent on BOTH browsers. Trouble is that it’s a sparodic problem, and believe me I’ve thought of all the usual things – and my broadband is ultra-quick thanks to a Virgin upgrade!!!!

Cache clearance was one of the first things I did Moggy… as I said I’m a pc man anyway so before posting I had exhausted all the user options available including trying on various pc’s dotted around the house – most of which are clear of any history of me logging into here. It’s only my personal pc that had any log in data saved – so I am at a loss to understand what happened?

In future I won’t bother advising of any issues with this forum – it IS just this site that has performed poorly at random intervals? If the webmaster & co believe it is not a problem their end, then I’ll just let the issue continue. Other forums in the past have been far more ‘on the ball’ but as very few even replied to this thread out of the huge membership then how can they actually tell?
