I bet Neil will be chuffed indeed…. 😉
Bit of history from this excellent website which indicates that it must have been floating around a bit prior to issue “in the summer of 1961” then:
Shack was probably right enough – given that they also famously feature Landrovers too – slightly out of the timeline too….. 😀
Nigel: It seems from a quick google that they are known as the PPG these days (group not society?)
Google also throws up this place who may have direct contact with them as their cockpit section resides there?
PS: Are you going up-market then? :diablo:
😮 What a tale…… so are we to assume that it was structural failure brought on by extreme turbulence that caused it?
Fascinating stuff…..
Not being a glider person, when I saw this I just had to google this…..lol
I did find this pic showing such a launch 😮

On arrival at Metheringham about 5+ years ago now, we unfastened the engine bay panels on our JP4 XS186, and found a depth charge and a 500lb bomb in the engine bay………….
😀 Now that’s a classic….. :diablo:
Of all the things you might have found in a JP – those don’t make the list do they – brilliant!
:diablo:
Why not give the Midland Air Museum a call (phone number on their website)?
I can’t honestly answer your query, as I have no idea of the extent of the AWA documentation held there, but the many artefacts on display including the aforementioned models are a treasure trove alone! 😉
4 actually…… cheeky git :diablo:
It wasn’t meant to be a rush job – but I’ll get on the case a.s.a.p. I know it’s so popular……lol 😀

What a shame – great actor, and an inspirational choice to play Guy Gibson…
It maybe worth contacting the Midland Air museum, there was a spare tailcone sat behind the Hunter there. It was damaged but maybe repairable, I’m sure XF382 will comment further if he picks up this thread.
That tailcone does actually belong to me, and is heavily damaged after suffering being shot at on Pendine ranges….. (frames shot out – skin punctured quite badly etc)
It is intended to be made displayable given the time and resources, as I wanted to show the damage from Aden cannon fire as part of the extra display material which I try and show alongside the Hunter itself.
What a marvellous hidden away project… 😮
20 years work and now we are privy to a few sneak peeks at what amounts to one huge labour of love by the looks of it…. tell your Dad he’s got something really special there, and well done!!!! 😉
I’m sure any further updates will be eagerly awaited…..
Nice – very VERY nice! 😀
Thank you for sharing them with us – but oh what a sad, sad sight they are….
Canopy left open to the elements or was that opened during the visit?
What a shame that no money could pay for their survival in another collection elsewhere…… 🙁
I’ll third that……
What have you found? :diablo:
It’s not good news at all – can’t register on that Forum Nige, as I only have hotmail addy’s to use and they aren’t allowed 🙁
