I found it to be very interesting to watch… Whilst sad to see any aircraft being scrapped, I was fascinated by the methods used and the sheer volume of recycled parts removed. It’s not all metal munching – and the fact that it takes a team of aircraft engineers to do this (not just a scrapman with JCB) made it compulsive viewing..
Good programme – and interesting subject.
Despite the more modern brickwork – it still looks very similar in size and shape to a Bessonneau type…. I’ve been looking at some old photos online, and wonder if the framework originally used to support the canvas could have been re-used with new more substantial cladding?
Look at the similarities in the photo
Blimey.. a spare piece of green land. How long before a Tesco’s appears on it??:D
:diablo::D very good…lol
Couple of ariel views showing different aspects…
Thought they might help.
What a great shame…. a place close to the hearts of many who like me joined the RAF and arrived there all fresh faced…. 🙁
Weather could have cleared quicker… but to be honest it didn’t spoil the day for us working behind the scenes.:)
Judging by the endless crowds pouring into the gate, we had a brilliant turn out, and hope it showed what Kemble can offer everyone 😀
Some lovely shots there….
See post #3 of this thread;).
John.
Yep, saw that, and also noted that the title of the thread is about the Draken on ebay….. (and read the other thread etc etc)
My hint at this thread going off topic didn’t quite hit the mark then… 😉
XR770 is being returned to the MOD for a full re-furb and then gate duties.
Regards,
John.
Was this posted on the right thread? I’m confused…..
Jindvik?
Brilliant and fascinating stuff….. thanks!
Brilliant stuff indeed… :D:D
I have a vague recollection (quite usual nowadays!) of seeing a photograph – probably in the 1970s – of underground hangars – built into the hillside – in a Scandinavian country, which were adjacent to a straight stretch of motorway, which were used/useable for dispersal purposes. Is my memory playing tricks on me or do other have a similar recollection?
Could you be thinking of the Swiss Mountain hangers?
My observations from our Vulcan at MAM would make me believe that you have a Vulcan one there, from the eyepiece shot anyway
Very nice indeed…. what a lovely sight to see them together…
