I was standing right up by the merins being ground run and shooting them as they come over the hedge.
Sorry Ollie but now I’m a tad confused by your statement above… You went on to say in a further post that you witnessed the “static engine runs” – so what exactly do you mean by shooting them as they come over the hedge?
Were they static / were they fitted to and flown on an aircraft or what?
Sorry to say but you are attracting ridicule by your statements written presumably in a little haste..
As before, some of us have tried to persuade you to carefully check your posts for typos / grammar / accuracy etc to try and help you – but now you are up to your old tricks mate… ๐
better make sure there not a canopy above it we all know what Kevs like !!! :diablo:
Scotty
Oooooooh how could you bring that one back up…..:dev2:
The poor sod is never going to be able to forget that is he…..:D
Blimey Kev – you must have reached ancient years if your self pity is anything to go by….. :diablo:
Hopefully you get to enjoy your ripe old years of….. oh whatever they are……lol
Pity I haven’t been able to get to the Museum of late – otherwise some serious ribbing would have been the order of the day…
Don’t worry – I’m sure next year the ENTIRE museum will make an effort to commemorate another milestone in yer life…. ๐ฎ
(Now I’m retreating back into my hidey hole….lol)
PS:
Happy Birthday ๐
Have to admit that’s one very good repaint project.
Nice photo selection showing progress too.
Well done to all concerned ๐
Yes.. really good question indeed!
Did the obvious google, and found what I assume to be a non-genuine sign (enamel gift type), but looks so good it shoudl have been the fore-runner to the jet type we are more familiar with… ๐
I have the same concerns Roger….. (about me) :diablo:
Sad to say that this year has been a total flop as far as my attendance goes. My new circumstances have pushed me further away from free time than ever before. Even getting online is a brief journey these days. I seem to be working and sleeping with a heavy dose of house restoration thrown in between coffee breaks ๐ It will all get sorted eventually – and I will drive there and try and get in the door…
Watched it too – found it very moving. Very well made even with the CGI effects. Hope that there are more programmes coming like this to remind folk what happened 20 years ago… I was just a frustrated airman who wanted to be there but was not qualified on suitable aircraft types at the time….
I thought the WW2 aircraft reccy models were made from a black material and certainly more accurate?
Bakelite was used to make the two genuine WW2 examples I have with me, that were used by my Grandfather in his trade of Airfield Gunner. Mine are a lot more accurate in detail, and are of a Bristol Beaufighter and a Heinkel 111. They come with predrilled holes to enable them to be hung up so that the black silhouette could be remembered. Can’t quite see how brass examples would be of much use as genuine recognition aids?
I ‘chickened out’ from a chance to fly in one of the Marlborough Pitts Specials during a practise for one of our annual air displays at Brawdy back in the 80’s ๐ก
Then, once I had arrived at Gutersloh on a short detachment also from Brawdy, me and a colleague were awaiting the arrival of 2 of our resident JP4’s which we were to look after – and which included flying with them to another base whilst there; only to find that sadly one of ours had crashed in Wales and the detachment was cancelled. Crew were ok, but JP wasn’t ๐
So all the preparation including medical and getting fitted out for flying kit was in vain….. ๐
Never mind – all the other oppurtunities made up for it ๐
Well it had to happen I suppose – put my two-penneth in and got my head well and truely bitten off, chewed and spat out at the end… ๐ฎ
Read through the attacks after my post here…. Here
I don’t think I’ll bother responding in there and lowering myself to their standards….. ๐
Good to hear that you have signed up again for this year Pete, as with yourself, I am part of the build up team, starting Monday 11th with bringing the E28/39 in for static, then onto setting out the barriers.
Friday 15th could be interesting.
ooo you tease……:diablo:
No doubt we’ll bump into each other then.
Forgive my ignorance, but what website is that?
Try this one: Photo Gallery Site
A very very sad loss indeed….
I wish I could have met the great man… my enthusiasm with the Hawker Hunter made me very respectful of Neville Duke…
My condolences to his family
Perhaps one RAF aircraft that should have โpride of placeโ in any flypast is Chinook HC1 ZA718 โBravo Novemberโ.
This was the only Chinook to survive the destruction of Atlantic Conveyor by Exocet and was the only Chinook available to the British forces until after the end of the war.
Last sighting I had ZA718 was still earning her keep (23 years later) out in Iraq!
Yes, good point – Bravo November is well remembered and it would be good PR for the MOD to include it too…..
I thought the point was – WHAT sponsor?
From what I’ve been reading, it’s being repainted into naval colours, flown off to Yeovilton, and then returned to be kept outside back at Bournemouth for storage…. all a bit gut wrenching and with no light at the end of the tunnel as far as return to airshow work so far…..
