Poland Air Force #4104, an ex-Luftwaffe bird

Interestingly, this one was photographed back in Sept 2003

I wonder why no such Fulcrums have been seen since then… Even more peculiar is, that the #4104 should never have been assigned to any ex-Luftwaffe MiG-29. I have been thru the whole list, but the only serial ending with xx04 is to be assigned to one of the double-seaters..

Can someone elaborate on that? This photo does not really look like a fake or PS

It is not a fake. It was celebration for delivery of first German MiGs to Poland. German have had painted this MiG in Polish insignia. Now this and all ex-German MiGs are in Polish Military Aviation Workshop in Bydgoszcz and looks like this:

Simply brilliant. Especially the pics at airliners.net.

    THX Harry,

for sure this is not a military airship, but it is my first one air2air with comercial jet 🙂
I used a small prop plane as a chase and had not much time to shoot this beast

    Very nice pictures, A2A!

Say how much does it cost to fly a MiG21UM? And how long is each flight?

For MiG-21 it is about 8000USD per hour, and each flight is about 45 minutes.
For MiG-29 or Su-22 it cost 15000USD per hour and I fly longer period of time with Suchoys. 1 hour – 1hour 20 minutes.

What is the readiness status of the Polish Mig 29 fleet? Not counting the ex-German planes, how many of the 22 currently in service are airworthy? Are there still problems with getting spares from Mikoyan and Russia?

I will find out and let You know, but it doesn’t look so good.

    PS
Do You live in Teaneck, New Jersey???

    air2air.net,

More great shots! Tell me, what are you flying in when you take these photos?

I usually fly same type I shoot. I flew Su-22UM and MiG-21UM, but here because of low budget this year it was inpossible and I flew in TS-11.
Here is the pic of chase plane I used during Fulcrum session:

Can I ask waht equipment you use. Especially which lense. I guess changing a lense is out of the question on such a flight. I could really use that information.

    I use two zoom lenses
    28-135IS
    and
    100-400IS
I only shoot slides: Fujichrome Provia 100F and my favourive Fujichrome Velvia 100F. AIr to air in jets I use short lens. There is no chance to take 100-400 lens up in the air in supersonic aircraft. There is not much space in the cockpit there 🙂

Here is the link to view my pictures on airliners.net

These are in higher resolution then on my own website
All this shots on both websites was made with these two lenses.

How many flying hours are the Poles getting these days?

    MiG-29 and Su-22: about 80 hours
Polish Air Force Academy instructors: 150-250 hours

Ok, I have worked out that its not a dent, but looks like one. Its actually a small hump that appears on both sides in the same place. But, what is it?

These are aggregates covers. I don’t know what kind of aggregates, but if You will remind me in two week I will find out Glenn.

Great shots! In picture 4, there appears to be a dent in the airframe. What is that?

    What dent Glenn?

What happened to the offsets? I thought that one of the reasons for the F 16 contract was the offsets. Why is Poland buying the planes, but getting shortchanged? What happened?

    air2air.net

You said that it takes one year for the refit. How many planes a year can the workshop do?

Just US are too busy to think about Polish offset. They prefer to pay award for not doing any offset. They are busy in Iraqi conflict now.

About the second part, I have no idea, but for sure more than they do now 🙂
