thats one heck of a pic Harry, great news for the IN! Didn’t know IN Shars had A2A refuelling ability 😮 knew they were working on it, i assume it must be commonplace by now for them to release pics such as this one during the recent exercise with the french? How long have they been doing this?

The picture quality is the best i agree but personally i do not think the Mirage 2000 is the most beautiful aircraft among all the modern fighters

I was referring to the picture more than the a/c myself. In terms of good looks, it would have to be between the folllowing for me:
    SU 30MKI
    Rafale
MiG 35 (in that red get up @ farnborough, looked beautiful)
    Gripen
    f16 blk 50

    For outlandish exotic look,
the Berkut wins it in my book and possibly the Draken.

What sort of radar are we looking for the MiG29k? Zhuk M? or Zhuk MF? What is the difference?

SU-30MKI and the fleet of M2Ks will be facing an F-16C/AMRAAM C-5 combo AND a J-10/SD-10 combo.

Whoever you are, please stop – it is getting embarassing for even the audience. PN gets a couple of new toys does not ensure that it becomes the most technologically superior force in the sea. Like any smart person understand that the PN is a decent enough force no doubt, but it is outnumbered, outgunned and outperformed on every level by the IN.

And talk about speculation, it was said that the IN Dorniers could even fire ASMs, anyone know which type. Harry?

qantaz asked me if I know about Sea Dragon

well, I don’t think any reasonable person would argue that PN capabilities isn’t behind IN both qualitatively and quantatively, but what annoys me is the way that someone like qantaz talk.

he normally posts in DT and strategypage forum. You can check up on his posts to see their quality and his credential.

So, you are saying IAF would have no clue of what goes on in IN? btw, his post was in response to the MPA competition that includes IL-38 and P-8.

right, did IN actually get both APS-115 and Sea Dragon to be able to say that Sea Dragon is much better?

btw, Harry. I really do think you should do something about Qantaz. He has been very confrontative in this thread.

    TPH,

FWIW, i’ve hung around stratpage and it reeks of a prowestern bias esp. vis a vis the Russian, I gave up on them the moment I found keypubs and acig. i’d take WAB anytime.

    Greenday,

Don’t underrate an upgraded sub – upgrades often include some superb tech diminishing the tech advantage considerably. A comparison between Greek upgraded 209s and new 214s might be a good exercise. It is only the age factor that cannot be reduced with an upgrade. First of all IN is extremely secretive about subs, and let us not be forgetting the SSNs, which seem to be almost a surety now.

The Sea Dragon suite has found its way on the IL 38s but NOT on the TU 142s, which seem to have some kinda Israeli package centered around the EL/M-2022A (V3) radar. Tphuang please check this on the same link that you posted. also the IN currently seems quite pleased with the capability of the IL 38SD, in fact if recent new reports are to be believed an order for 3 more is in the offing.

To compare PN capabilities either in term of technology or sheer numbers against the IN is a rather farfetched joke. No doubt the PN submarines are getting better, but many IN surface combatants (even frigates and corvettes) have ASW capabiliity by using helos like Seaking, Ka28/31 and to some extent the Dhruv as well. This is apart from their bears and upgraded il 38s.

I remember reading somewhere that ACM clearly ruled out F-35 ever entering service with IAF.

Yeah but the IN Chief had expressed interest in it so perhaps the IN instead of IAF will get it??

    just a technical point !!

Agreed, sorry to have not made it more clear. But why not the Brahmos? Surely source codes wouldn’t be a problem? Whats the point in having a india specific variant if they can’t put in india specific weapons? The Su 30mki for example wouldn’t have trouble integrating the Astra? They were even talking of hooking up Derby or even Meteor on the MKI.

    I was referring to this:

Boeing may sell India modified maritime aircraft

    Press Trust of India

    Washington, April 20, 2006

Boeing may sell as many as eight modified versions of the P-8A Multi-mission Maritime Aircraft (MMA) to India over a period of four years, according to reports.
Under a request for proposals announced by India, bids would have been submitted and the first of the deliveries would occur within 48 months of the award of the contract, said a report in a defence journal.

Boeing’s proposal includes the development of a unique Indian Navy P-8 configuration, a significant participation for Indian industry, test and certification activities and eight aircraft delivered over a four year period“, the company has said, according to the report.

Picking the MMA would enable India to increase its maritime reconnaissance, submarine hunting and coastal patrol capabilities substantially, it said, but added that Boeing is expected to face competition for the Indian contract.

The MMA is based on the Boeing 737-800 commercial airliner featuring twin CFM56-7 jet engines by General Electric.

“We have proposed a unique system that will enhance the capability of the Indian Navy in anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare” said Rick Buck, the Boeing programme manager for P-8A international programmes.

“The increased range, speed, radius of action and advanced combat power inherent in our 21st century solution will enable the Indian Navy to fully patrol and influence events in its entire operational region.

“Additionally, the commonality inherent in our solution will greatly enhance the interoperability and supportability objectives publicly supported by both the US and Indian navies,” the report quoted him as saying.

BIO, agreed the main design is probly already frozen – but like you said they may very well develop a “variant” for Indian needs, why would the Brahmns be out of question esp. since the IN seems to set store by it?

Man the Indian Navy guys are too secretive, esp. about their subs:
for ex, what is the status of:
U 209 upgrade: Are they going to include an AIP or missile firing capability?
Lease of Russian Nuke Akula typ Subs: It seems to IN crews are already in russia for training.
ATV class Nuke sub project: NOTHING.

Also any news of the TU 142 upgrade? Or the Shars? Or new acquisitions of more IL 38s?

So much going on, but little confirmed.

Russian weapons will not be integrated on US platforms. Period.

Yeah but Brahmos is not exactly a Russian weapon. Much of the development was done by India too…so P8 with Brahmos may be a possibility esp. since they are offering India the option to codevelop P8.

Hit a USN Carrier = sign your death warrant = exactly what America wants – an open act of war. If Iran tries something that aggressive it has pretty much has sealed its own fate…americans will go all the way, public support will be for the war not against it….remember Pearl Harbor?? That was the spark required to drag America into WWII. Iran is much smarter than that….it is far more profitable to conduct a proxy war with much cheaper weapons and cost Israel/US HUGE $$$$ to try and keep it under control. Much the same way Pakistan uses wannabe-jehadis from kashmir to keep large amounts of Indian soldiers and funds occupied.

The idea is if you have a wasp sized sting, use it time and again to cause the giant some pain, no point trying to lop his head off!

Here is something that is actually being done – Su-30MKI takes off with full bombload from Pune (Mahrashtra), bombs a range in Pokhran (Rajasthan), -> IFR -> bombs a range in North East India -> IFR -> does a “mission” over the andaman islands and returns to Pune. Calculate what the related range covered is, with two IFRs and full bombload.

Egadzooks man! you are always bringing in news to gawk at…simply awesome 😮

hey may be the IAF which is currently lookiing for a quick stop gap measure to avoid fall in #s can “lease” these a/c and the RMAF can take ’em back later, all at a certain cost of course. How many birds to the malaysians have anyway? This way they can make a quick buck and the IAF can stem the shortage a bit.
