What kind of flying do the do with the EE Wren?
Hi Mike,
I have just watched it. It’s interesting to hear the complete story of the man who was involved in the job. It’s probably unique to have a video about this subject. So for me it is a good and interesting video. It’s a bit on the long side. What you could do, is insert some pictures in the long static monologues.
At least you have a flying Lanc.A flying B17,more Spitfires than what you could poke a stick with,Hurricanes,Me109,s,etc,etc…We have some nice toys here but nowhere the amount of heavy metal seen in the Northern Hemisphere.
I couldn’t agree more. In the Netherlands we have, compared to Britain, only a few “heavy metal” warbirds. But we are happy with it. And compared to most country’s in the world we are rich. This doesn’t mean that I regret that the BBMF and the Red Arrows won’t visit the “Open dagen” of the Royal Netherlands Air Force this weekend. But there will be a next time.
Not as bad as you might think, as I use the Canon 400mm f/4 DO lens (with a 1.4x converter for these shots), which isn’t as big as the older technology lenses….saves my arms from aching as well!:)
The focal length is 560mm in total (on a 1Ds MkII).
Well then it must be the close distance to the aircraft at Old Warden (and maybe the enormous amount of pixels) that made these brilliant pics technically possible. I just got an EF 100-400 L IS for my 20D. Hope to post some pics made with this combination soon.
Darren,
How many yards is the focal length of your lens?
Jerry Billing + Spitfire MK923:
Nice one for “How low can you go”.
Thanks Mk V.
I am surprised that the total is less than 20, – I really thought we had a few more than that
AR213 G-AIST is another ‘flyer’ on long-term engineering. Last flew about 1996, I think.
If G-AIDN T8 does return from the States that will help to balance the books.
And it’s a long time ago that HFL owned so few flyers.
I you haven’t ever been to Old Warden or you haven’t visited for a while then watch this.

(25mb .wmv file)
It might make you realise it’s time for a visit!
Great video. Have to come back for an airshow at Old Warden. Probably next year.
I have a Minolta Dimage 5400 since a couple of years. Price then was € 900,-. It’s a real high quality, easy to use piece of equipment. Don’t know whether it’s still available though (as Konica-Minolta).
As always great stuff. The Spitfire and Mustang picture is my winner. And, although I’m not too interested in Helicopters, there are some great chopper pics. Thanks for sharing.
It would be nice to have a couple of Hawker Typhoons new build. There must be a few erks who know everything about Napier Sabres.
Went there yesterday. Weather was not that good, but I managed to get the shots I wanted. BW Roger
I’m a little bit jealous. Had hoped to make some pics of the Spit while it was flying. What a waste that the rear seat isn’t occupied.
Was there on saturday morning (had to leave too early). Not much flying, but good weather and a lovely atmosphere.
17:00 hrs this afternoon the Dutch Catalina flew over Ede (direction Lelystad).
Fantastic and unique. The first two pictures with the 7 fighters are my favourites. Might take a while for the next oppertunity.
