So you are happy with the in flight turn backs then? I would have thought you would have denied them lol I never mentioned BFS’s fortunes …which are sound….but pleased to hear from you none the less…now refresh my memory…the passenger cap which you assured me (on pprune) which had been raised……..bollox or what?
Hi EW, pedantic as always, some things never change! – the in flight turn backs to which you refer are of no consequence to me personally on the subject of which who had a turn back to BFS only a few days ago due to unruly passengers (not the first time!). BTW, if they had decided to name BFS after George Best, what would your reaction have been – lets face it, BFS could do with a name change when you realise its further away from the city it purports to serve than every other similarly sized airport in the UK or Ireland!
On the subject of fortunes, I see the widely heralded link to INV is now down to four times a week – what’s the bets it disappears completely come the winter schedule – the cap at BHD may not have been officially lifted but it has been judged as an inappropriate way to regulate growth there much to the dismay of BFS – mind you, it hasn’t stopped BHD securing AB to STN (bet that stings!!)
Finally, I see security at BFS is as tight as ever – pity it didn’t stop £9000 worth of plasma TVs walking a few weeks back – cheers!!
Call it whatever you like.. how many people(non football fans ) really know who he was?.I like the idea of one of the Dash 8’s being named after him…considering the inflight turn backs by this marque ,it would appear to suit Mr Best well…rarely where he was needed and temperamental. Belfast International has such a nice ring to it.
Hi Mr McCall ….I’m back :dev2: :dev2:
It’s a pity you chose such a sensitive subject on which to post such sardonic and callous comments – then hijacking the thread just to take a side swipe at Flybe and, at the same time, try to boost BFS’s flagging fortunes, beggars belief!!
Although they were and still are noisy, smelly and smokey, nothing beats the view of a TU154 heading straight towards you! – with those anhedral wings, they look like a real mean son of a b***h!
So did the city
Thats why their share price has dropped by nearly 10%!
Looks as though PM has been attending the “MOL School of Dimplomacy”!!
It’s very easy to point the finger at the pilots but surely ATC at Eglinton must shoulder some of the blame – do they not have radar to monitor visual approaches?
The problem will be getting it back out after i imagine. Dont think Ballykelly is big enough for a B738 takeoff even empty!
Especially considering Ryanairs’ engines are derated!
Fingers crossed someone will step in and start CWL – BHD!
Think its going to be “George Best Airport” – would have been better as “Belfast George Best Airport” a la Liverpool – in conversation most people will refer to Liverpool as just that and not include the “John Lennon” – in local circles I would imagine BHD will continue to be referred to as the “City”
Why would people associate George Best with Aldergrove? – he was from East Belfast – Aldergrove is 16 miles from Belfast and even further from East Belfast!
It is great news!! Suprised its BHD tho!
Why the surprise? – makes much more sense from BHD – had they opted for BFS they would have been competing directly with Easyjet!
As far as I know, ‘CL is BHD based so it will be used on various routes – in fact, a work colleague of mine travelled on it yesterday morning from GLA – BHD before it was actually offically unveiled!
Waste of time e-mailing them, I did three times about the BHD fiasco and got no response – when I rang them, they admitted they wouldn’t be doing BHD “for technical reasons” which could mean pretty much anything.
Meanwhile nobody seems to be rushing to take up the CWL – BHD route so it looks as if it ain’t going to happen – disappointing!
What’s the pax capacity of an EMB195?
In Flybe spec think it’s 119 – I thought BHD would get a couple of based 195s to replace the 146s
Just a technicality but, assuming the Welsh RDF operates the same way as the N Ireland RDF, it is actually the airport and not the airline that receives the financial assistance which enables it to pass on reduced landing fees etc to the airlines operating the routes in question.
In the N Ireland case, the NI Select Committee recently expressed concern about the piecemeal way in which the fund had been administered in it’s first 12 months – it would seem that a much more watchful eye will be kept on it in the future!
All of the LHR/BHD flights were operated by A320s yesterday instead of the normal 321s – not sure about today – however, when the 321s were withdrawn for mods to alleviate landing probs at BHD, A320s operated the route and an extra am rotation using a F100 was added. Perhaps this will happen again using an A319 once the last of the 321s disappears. Somehow can’t see E145s being appropriate!
