Quote: “pity as it would have been my first trip there” – wouldn’t fret, you aren’t missing much – unless, of course, you have a burning desire to visit an airport firmly stuck in an 80s time warp with orange tails everywhere!
Its a crying shame because a little investment in the right places could make such a difference – BHD is space age in comparison!
Might it be something to do with the fact that most of them are getting a bit long in the tooth now. Aren’t most around 20 years old?
Perhaps it’s time they looked at updating them by a few years or maybe even looked at 700s.
Well at least it’s been updated – pity the timetable for CWL – BHD doesn’t show the full flight nos although the booking engine does – the return fares seem to be around £80 incl taxes etc – a casual check on WW’s from BFS don’t show any significant savings.
On the subject of CWL – BHD, despite Aer Arann assuring me by e-mail that their fares would be bookable from the beginning of this month, still nothing showing on their website – does anyone else suspect they will quietly drop this one before it even gets off the ground?
No-one should really be surprised at FR’s increasingly childish behaviour particularly when they’re under competition – perhaps it’s just as well they don’t operate out of Belfast!
Had a look at some of the media reports today – mention is made of a new route from Belfast – anyone any ideas where that might be? – can’t really think of anywhere apart from LCY perhaps!! – would be good to get that one back at BHD since Flybe ditched it a couple of years back.
It was actually myself that suggested a takeover or merger might be on the cards when RE & 6G both announced CWL -BHD – I e-mailed RE before Xmas and received a reply today stating that fares on the route were being finalised and should be available for booking at the beginning of January – as 6G’s fares are already bookable, it seems that, at this stage, both are planning to operate the route.
Of course, in this industry, things can change overnight – as they say, only time will tell – one thing is for sure, a merger would seem to make perfect sense – the resultant competition would present Air Southwest with a real headache!
Well this morning has come and gone and, not surprisingly, CWL – BHD still not bookable! Mind you, Aer Arann said their fares on the same route would be bookable mid December and we’re still waiting!
Despite announcing CWL – BHD a few weeks ago, still not bookable and no schedules published – then, of course, Aer Arann announced they would be operating the same route from March 06 and that fares/schedules would be available mid December and still nothing!
This all seems very strange unless of course, reading between the lines, the BHD announcements are a precursor to closer co-operation between the two airlines. If you look at the business model of both, they are very similar – operating niche routes which traditional locos wouldn’t look twice at because they are looking for maximum yield for minimum outlay. In addition, both airlines operate a one type fleet, in both cases happen to be ATR42/72s. It is obvious that there will be a massive over capacity to BHD if both go ahead notwithstanding the WW service to BFS.
This will be Aer Aranns’ first venture into Air Wales’ main base directly competing with them on one route – does anyone else suspect what I do? – a merger or even a takeover on the cards! There definitely seems to be more to this than meets the eye.
Yes thanks for that – I telephoned Air Wales today pm and they told me route would definitely start in Mar 06 but timings/bookings won’t be available for a few weeks.
Fingers crossed at least 2x per weekday and 1x Sat & Sun.
I’ve had a quick look at Air Wales’s website today – despite saying that CWL – BHD would be bookable from midnight on Monday, guess what it isn’t! I’ve spoken to a couple of friends who work at BHD and they’ve heard nothing about it!
Perhaps it is a mistake after all – anyone know different?
Don’t think we should get too carried away – will only run on Sats up to 03 September – remember what happened to BOH!
It should also be remembered that Air Wales did operate CWL – BHD up until a couple of years ago when WW started from BFS – I suppose it will all come down to Air Wales frequency and timings from BHD – they have the opportunity to capitalise on WW’s 1X daily and offer 2X daily to attract the business “there and back same day” fraternity.
In any event, WW seem to have a somewhat disinterested attitude on this route – looks more as if they will be maximising aircraft utilisation rather than actively marketing the service – better to have an aircraft doing something rather than sitting at CWL for 2/3 hours.
Having had a quick look at the BFS 06 summer schedule, I can’t help but think that WW seem to have adopted a “headless chicken” approach. Now that the 6G codeshare is coming to an end, frequency is dropping from 2X weekdays to 1X with a late afternoon timing – one wonders what type of passenger WW are trying to attract – leisure perhaps but these timings and frequency will be useless to business pax.
I recall 6G operating CWL – BHD up until 2003 at 2X weekdays – then WW came along and started CWL – BFS. 6G continued for a while then pulled the BHD. Initially, WW used a 735 which they could seldom fill. They then set up the codeshare with 6G and the fare levels increased significantly. Even now 6G have trouble filling an ATR42. Now fares are dropping but so is frequency – what is going on??
Perhaps it is time that another operator with a modicum of common sense took over operating a 2X weekday and 1X at weekends to BHD with a sensible fare structure – would seem to be an ideal vehicle for Air Southwest. Somebody needs to come in and sort out this shambles!
All CWL/BFS/CWL flights are by Air Wales ATR42 operating on behalf of WW.
