Duh, SoG says ‘Red Arrows’ or possibly a Westwood T1200 ride-on – but then he would.

If this is the same chap, I can remember him arriving at Perranporth in an Auster, some 35 years ago, (before GA returned to that amazingly time-locked WW2 airfield and the Cornish Gliding (& Flying) Club flew on there in splendid isolation. Nothing unusual in that, occasional visitors from ‘up country’ and Lands End provided a bit of GA interest for us young shaver pilots. This Auster was different – it lacked fabric over the entire rear of the airframe from the cockpit back to the rudder post. I think he called it a ‘Bleriot-Auster.’ Our CFI at the time offered a warm welcome in the best tradition of all aviators to one another, but regretted the Auster’s attire was not entirely suitable for the establishment or the occasion. I imagine he was asked to return when the Auster was properly dressed.

If this was not one and the same flying vet – I offer my profuse apologies (anno domini).

I doffs me cap to him; amazing.

Thanks to you all for this fascinating thread! Sitauted as I am in the a**e-end of beyond with only the occasional Merlin helicopter to disturb the peace you don’t know what a tonic this forum is. Thanks for posting these excellent images and for all the information.

Incidentally, and off topic and I hope not an inappropriate reflection, I had the pleasure of flying, about 30 years ago now, in Sally B at Yeovilton airday. I am sure the pilot was Don Bullock. As we flew up the crowd line I was sitting in the bomb-aimers position, and I am sure I could see individual blades of grass. We pulled up into a climbing turn and as we came down the other side the Invader wizzed by underneath. They were grand days, Ellie and crew have done a wonderful job of keeping her flying, and I am so p****d off with living in this over-regulated and over-taxed but otherwise wonderful country. Apologies for my language and for using your thread for this little rant – but perhaps you concur and will forgive me.
