If you fancy something a lot faster and more agile than a Pitts, try the Extras at Kemble. They specialise in the “Top Gun Experience”.

you’re not snapper in disguise are you? 😀
Thanks for the advice. General advice appears to be to keep the lessons close together. Finance is going to be a bit tight for the next year and easier after that, but Moggy’s words appear to be a way forward: Start soon at one a month, it’s flying and it counts. Later on I can book them closer together.
Looks like next move is to look around, book a couple of trial flights and, most importantly, do it. I should also follow Janie’s advice and start reading the theory.
many thanks, I’ll keep you posted.

I suppose strictly speaking Petter didn’t really design the Lightning as he left EE to go to Folland in the early 50’s, with Fred Page taking over the development of the P.1 into the Lightning. But it was Petter’s concept I suppose.
point conceded, but I’d argue it was his concept hence he was the father of the Lightning.
Don’t forget Petter also designed the Lysander when working for Westlands (Whirlwind aswell..?), and in fact Petter was the grandson of the founder of Westlands.
That I didn’t know!
must admit to an admiration of Teddy Petter, designer of the Canberra, Lightning, Gnat

it belongs to the City of Glasgow. http://www.24hourmuseum.org.uk/nwh_gfx_en/ART17729.html
In 1996, the aircraft was retrieved from the RAF Museum store at Cardington and with Parliamentary permission, since all military equipment is the property of the MoD, was gifted to the City of Glasgow. Two years later the restoration project began at the Museum of Flight in East Fortune.
A joint venture between Glasgow City Council, National Museums of Scotland and the Scottish Executive, the restoration cost a total of £433,000.
ps no l in the name, dodrums = half daft notions! 🙂
