Oooooh my hometown. Any idea whereabouts in Stanford???
Ok wrong one sorry, Looks very similar to a photo of Titches wheels up.
this maybe Titch Palliser’s wheels up in Stanford le Hope Essex. cant find my book at mo.
Stunning ! I actually like it in gloss finish for some reason.
Wel done to all concerned for this projects restoration really began at the beginning by being saved.
I do not think you can trace a stick back to a particular aeroplane but maybe to which model, MKI MK II etc.
Curlyboy. I agree with everything you say, my comments are just a personal view of the bones of the place. For what the AAM stands for is spot on, a memorial to those American airmen, today especialy.
Now getting the 17 though the door has to be a brilliant piece of work, hats off for that.
I am not knocking the museum just adding into a question further back, not a moan, more an observation.

my dyslexia unfortunately does not allow me your oh godly high amazing grammer skills. but this does not stop me from my opinion of the AAM building. The memorial is not to be put aside I just fel it lacks.
Your not Sir Norman Foster are you by chance ? oh and one other thing, this phone does not have the luxury of spell check and neithet would it help because word blindness is just that, I cannot see the word.
Speak to Sir Richard Branson about it.
now look in your You’re own house befor you damn dam dang someone who is offering an opinon.
Maybe this from the reciprocal ?

Not quite true TA as there are a couple of alcoves at the back with uniforms and memorabilia in and a list of the fallen which is quite sobering when you see people with the same surname as yours
And of course the Glass walkway at the rear which really should be the entrance at all times
well TA how about covering some of the bland concrete with images of some of the flyers or even tail marking of the individual units of the 8th and modern counterparts as an example the 100th still exists today based in the UK so telling how it was developed from WW2 to today would be good, just think it needs to be a bit more colourful, with perhaps modern LED lighting and a reference to the glass panels along the avenue to the main entrance would be good (The Mighty 8th avenue of remembrance !) i put some visitors right before Legends who thought it was a nice wind break. Well that just my opinion anyway and reflects nothing on any one who works/volunteers there its still a great place just needs to be modernised all at a cost i know.
Chris, your correct it needs this, also it needed secrets, you can see it all from the front, outside the glass so when you walk in you have no surprises, this is needed with museums, Hendons BoB hall gets it a bit right.
The AAM was a big mistake and missed opportunity, it was more about a statement building than a thinking of how to best display the aircraft and its contributions it made. I would of liked to of seen something more akin to the land warfare museum and should of also house excavated wrecks and show the destruction of war in its bare elements.
The building is to small, and was to small form the outset to tell the bigger story.
What can they do on a refurb?, move stuff out, dust it, put it back, they even messed up as I thought the front was supposed to be able to be opened up when needed to allow things in and out, The B17 had to be dismantled and come through the doors, lucky it was in the position it was. oh well my rant over.
