Thank’s Anna 🙂

Hi Albert,
many thanks for the advice… it all helps.
By the way I’m not after becoming professional at this game. I’m a self confessed “happy snapper” who just wants to take proper photos rather than snaps.
I look with envy at the pics taken by the likes of Richard, manonthefence etc and thats what I aspire to so any hint’s tips you pro photographers can pass on are greatly appreciated.
Thanks again
Cliff
Hi Mark,
Really nice pix of the sea fury… wonder were you airside or just a large lens??

.
Finally – surely a Welsh museum would give this a home?
TT
Sure it was not for pigeon racing :p
Meant to ask you… did you see the T6 parts (Portugese AF Markings) for sale on Ebay the other week??

Cliff
Howard Hughes with spruce goose or does that not count?
Cliff
Drat, curses 25degsouth beat me to it 😉
Richard,
Many thanks for your frank reply and critique. Well what can I say but thanks, it certainly helps especially when your trying to learn. To be honest the pix in the duxford post are only my second attempt at moving targets and yes they not as sharp as I would have liked.
As I’m still learning to drive the 350D I have only ventured with AP mode and use F10.
maybe it’s time to try either fully manual or shutter priority.
As for the “happy snapper” well i’m comfortable with that discription well for now anyway but I’m desperate to make that transition from snaps to photographs and I aspire to be able to take photos like yourself and Daimien B ect on here.
I guess there is no gain without pain so it’s more practice for me and with your indulgence maybe ask for hints tips and the odd critique. Who know maybe one day I might get a press pass to get those desirable angles 😉
Thanks again…
Cliff
Hi Richard,
As a “happy snapper” I look with alittle envy at the pix in the magazines and wish I could take photos that come near to them. I realise that I’ll never be a pro but really want to raise my standard.
I was wondering if there was any advice that you or any of the other “pro” aviation photographers could give me in how to improve my work. By the way I totally agree with your last reply in as much as getting access to press locations at show and air to air is half the battle and imho the reward for hard work.
examples of my work http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=57506
I tried at EPZ but get nowhere with advice in improving technique ect so am looking here.
The kit I use is
CANON EOS 350D + CANON 70 – 300mm USM IS + Sigma 18 – 55mm
Would changing to L lens really make that much difference??
regards,
Cliff
Thanks Cliff,
If I may though:Now why would an almost new (repositioned and refurbished only a few years ago) building need ‘a lot of work’? – They must’ve finished the snagging by now, and to roll straight into upkeep maintenance that needs to exclude the public from a museum building can only be explained by a lack of competence.
Of course I’m sure there’s a perfectly reasonable (other) explanation…
I’ve been challenged by another forumite as having a dislike of Dr Fopp, and a crusade against the museum. Not true.
I’m sure Dr Fopp is a very nice man, and loves kids and animals etc; however as he’s in charge of the worst performing aviation museum by almost any measure you care to choose, I’d suggest he needs to get better or let someone else, who can match the performance of the peer institutions, run the place?
Cheers
You may be right I really don’t know as I can only go by what I was told but…
The point I was making was that the Staff were prepared to put themselves out to try an open a section of the complex just for myself and my 10yr old lad and that means quite allot in customer service terms… It would have really been easy for them to say “It’s closed go away!”
So yes Hendon may have some issues to photographers but customer service aint one of them IMHO.
Cheers

Was there to see her flying 🙂 see attached pix will post a few more on a seperate thread
Yes it was like a private airshow shame it was lost on the bus load of German kids on a visit!
The Air Atlantic MeatBox G-LOSM was also a welcome visitor 🙂

Was at Hendon last week… Yes the Graham White building was closed but when I asked at the desk as to when it may be open the very nice lady made a phone call to try and get it opened especially for me. I was only unlucky as on that day there was only one guide available and he was tied up with the Bonham Classic car auction other wise I would have been granted a guided tour.
Apparently there is allot of work going on in the Graham White building hence it is normally closed up opened on request subject staff
As for lighting levels well yes they are tricky and next visit i’ll take a tripod (permits needed but again you only have to ask at the desk)
Thanks for those replies, the bit about ringing them before hand was interesting as i suspect they would be careful with the truth if they want you there and the money in the till.
.
Don’t forget entrance is FREE both at Hendon and Cosford so definatly no complaints here!

Cliff
For the moment A380 can ONLY use 27L / 09R regardless of what the landing configuration at Heathrow. Dont forget when on westerly (27) the departures and landing traffic swap halfway through the day.
PS try about 1200 local on the 18th 😉
