Hi Martin,
Some very nice photos as always… 🙂 Looks like you had some good Wx on the Saturday. As you said a very relaxed atmosphere and well worth the £10 entry fee. Will certainly go both days next year esp if they are combining the great vintage flying week end again.
All the best
Cliff
What’s happening to the Canberras?
Are they just going to be left to rot where they are?
There werea couple of guys working on XH131 on Sunday, I did ask the same question to the guys at Delta Jets but no one seemed to know what was happening with them, Maybe one of the Kemble gang who frequent this forum may have some news??
Cheers Cliff
Glad you had a great time…! Super pix still going through the 1000 I took again with a BIGMA 😉
Cheers
Cliff
Super shots Glen… Mind me asking what camera / lens you were using?
The Herc shot is a cracker!
cheers Cliff
surely someone is interested in this famous old bird ?????:D
There are folk out there try either the Canberra Association http://www.bywat.co.uk/assoc.html or the international cockpit club where there are quite a few Cranberry cockpit / panel owners
cheers
Cliff
Being a Novice with the canberra and not being able to find a AP ,
how many panels exactly does the canberra have in the front cockpit, and being the front of my tt18 is devoid of anything ,what parts were in front of the pilot in the nose section of a canberra B2/ TT18
i only seem to have some instruments in the rear Navigators/whichmans position ??
i will see if i can post any pics , not great but the nose was in a real awkward position to take photos 😉
Does this help, tiz a pic of my TT18 panel…

Hi Phil,
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with Canon Outlet, Yes looking at the neg feed back it does seem that the issue is the customer service or lack of rather than the faulty goods aspect. I had already been tipped off that thier email was a waist of time hence the phone calls to their Dublin call centre when thier check out web pages refused to play ball.
I may on the face of it been lucky that all went well on the 4 cameras i have bought from them from what you have posted, so yes as with all ebay transactions do your home work. From an ethical point i did not know about the hassels with leaving neg feedback and since Canon are not happy Think ill give them a miss from now on…
Still stand by reconmending 7day shop though never had any problems with them or thier goods..
Once again good luck Duxford Hawk with your quest for a DSLR.
Cheers Cliff
P.S. Remember you will need other things too, a battery grip, memory cards, batteries, lens hoods, filters etc so don’t splash out too much on the camera itself. Also, be aware that about 95% of memory cards on ebay are fakes so I’d recommend getting them from Amazon instead.
Another good place to sorce spare batteries, CF cards is 7day shop had a few cards an batteries from them and have not had any problems and made good savings over UK mainland shops worth a look.
Also if on a tight budget consider Canon Outlet (Canon UK’s factory outlet who sell on ebay) got my 30D from them, yes it’s referbished and comes with one yrs warrenty but was much cheaper than Jessops etc. Agian bought several cameras from them with out problem… Only snag is the “check out” web site which can be temperamental at times but a quick call to thier call centre in Ireland soon sort things out.
Just my 2 Euro worth.. GL going DSLR, they need more work to get good pictures than a bridge or point n shoot type but are well worth the effort and you won’t look back.
Cliff
I use the Bigma and am very happy with it for 99% of the airshow / airport photography and example can be found here:

However I agree with the other guys on here that it does need tons of light to get it to perform. Anything needing ISO 400 to 800 to get the speed is going to be dark and when lightened in photoshop etc rather grainy.
If your going to the hills for lowfly etc you really need a good quality glass lens and dare i suggest a prime lens rather than a zoom for pin sharp images in low light conditions else it’s join everyone else in the pub!
best advice is to try both the 100 – 400 canon and the bigma on your camera then decide wich is best for you before spending what is a large amount of cash. Maybe renting one of each for an event may be an option for you to help decide?
Cheers and good luck with the lens hunting,
Cliff
daft question
Rip out the Merlin and put a DB up front. .:D
Daft question folks… would putting a DB into a buchon not make it more difficult to get a permit to fly in the UK? Looking at other projects and the problems they have had getting paper work after modifications from the “standard fit” have been made asks, rather a merlin buchon flyer or a grounded more authentic 109?
happy new year
Cliff
Santa was kind enough to bring a Corgi 72nd Scale Catalina Mk2, tiz a beauty!!
Happy new year to one n all
Cliff
In the wonderful world of air traffic control, large wind farms can give us grief with spurious radar returns, this is something that has been looked at and taken seriously. An example would be Glasgow where there is a large wind farm south of the city, here the power company concerned has got together with NATS and a new radar is to be installed which will over come the radar coverage problems.
From a GA persepctive, when I was going through my PPL albeit circa 1981 I was taught when planning my route to mark out the high obsticals be it hills w/t towers etc and plan my “safety” height accordingly so if viz did go down I’d be safe from hitting said obsticals. So no excuses from poor flight planning!
just my 2Euros worth

Witty Wings / Sky guardians are pretty good. The sea furies are excellent! 😉

Although we all like to think that everything in life revolves around aviation I think the real answer lies with the Atomic Research Agency just down the road at Aldermarston, but ssshhhh…..it doesn’t exist 😉
Interestingly whilst I was living in Tadley, approx 1/4 mile from AWRE Aldermaston some ten years ago there were reports in the local press of Greenham common as well as Aldermaston / Tadley being allegedly clusters for Infant leukaemia-cases.
IIRC nothing was ever prooved that current practise at AWRE were to blame when it went to enquiry so the alleged cause of the clusters remain a mystery. A bit off topic I know but since you mentioned the accident at Greenham in the 50’s maybe not so coincedental after all.
