She came over and did a few “straffing ” passes of windmill hill on the A3 at Clanfield before going to port nelson. Thanks for the private airshow 😉
cheers
Cliff
Err, can I be the one to put my head above the parapet to ask the obvious question?
How come a single engined military fighter maintained and flown regularly in active service might be considered less safe than a four engined aircraft which has not flown since 1993 and, with less than three months to go to the flypast, has not made it into the air yet?
i’ve no axe to grind either way, but it just seems curious to me.
Basically no matter how many engines you have all flights have to conform to the Rules of the Air regulations 1991. Unless given an exemption like those given to Police flights
Rule 5 govens height restictions and this says that you must be able to alight clear of congested areas ,city ,town or settlement in the event of a power unit failure. So to answer your question a SHAR losing an engine stands less chance of complying with these rules of the air than say a C130
And for my 2 Euro worth…
Westland Wyvern or Supermarine Scimitar
Bex beat me to the Canberra 😉 though a formation of ALL Mks would be a treat :dev2:
Cliff
Thanks for the information Ross, so if i understand you correctly the Mk30 feeds the Alt info to the mode C transponder we ATC type use to watch you guys 😉
The extra info about park aviation may well fit in with what they chap who sold it to me told me, as he and a colleague decided to liberate the panel prior to the rest of the airframe being scrapped.
missed out again on the TACAN indicator so still looking for one.
Bex I must make a trip over to Peters collection, when is a good time to visit to get the guided tour of your old girl?
Cheers Cliff
=========================================================
Still need the following Canberra spare parts
Tacan indicator
Artifical Horizon Gyro Mk3 6A/5035
Hi Bex, The Altimeter as Ross has suggested is indeed a Mk29B and the Horizon gyro is a Mk3 6A/5035.
Ross, you might know? Why did the pilot have a Mk29B and the Nav a Mk30 altimeter, would have thought they would have had the same flavour!
Cheers
Cliff
Yep no problem, Im away from home till Saturday so will look them up then and drop you a mail if thats ok
don’t be suprised if Ross beats me to it though.. Must say he has helped no end with my other TT18 FRADU panel, cheers mate!
regards
Cliff
Thanks for the link Ross,
😀
Good news about the WH856 panel is that it came complete with the last fit instruments. The only none original parts are the new wiring for the post lights and the compass correction cards are from a nimrod… see pic
I have looked on LesB Tribute site but WH856 is not listed as strictly speaking it is not a survivor just a main instrument panel, But will drop Les a line you never know it may start a new catagory on the tribute site 🙂
Well Bex
I have just come into posession of TT18 WH856 main panel so would be interested in it’s history. I know it was last at Abingdon at the Battle damamage school before being broken up and before that it did a short stint with FRADU but not much else.
Cliff
yep thats the one 😮
first time i don’t do a quick search before post DOH!
Could always turn this into a Canberra thread in stead 😀
Thank’s to you all
Thought I’d just like to take this oppertunity to thank all the owners, operators and museum staff who over the years have taken the time and effort to allow / invite myself and my son to cross barriers and get up close and personal with some truly wonderful machines.
As long as we play by the rules “look but not touch” I’m sure this will continue. This experience has made my son appreciate what aviation is truly about making it truly magical but most importantly how to have a healthy respect for aircraft what ever thier operational status .
Once again to all the owners and operators who have expressed thier views on this thread, Thankyou.
regards to all
Cliff
