Would it be prudent to allow the Hanger to be unerected properly than by a large bulldozer? That way it could be reused at another site to help protect the heritage of it.
Nice thought! Sadly I suspect that it will go the same way as the Lightning we had here at LTCC (RAF West Drayton) JCB’d before anyone could save her!
I’d loved to be proved wrong and the hanger saved!
regards to all Cliff
IMHO the new paint job looks even more immaculate close up 🙂 …. here are a couple of pix from last sunday.
cheers Cliff
Cliff,
I may have them, but I am making very slow progress in finding stuff at present! Hence the lack of a reply to your last letter.
I was in the shed today – depressing to realise just how much more I need to sort through!
Bruce
Hi Bruce, not a problem. I quite understand the pressures of new family members as well as work and other commitments. To be honest I’ve just moved house and so in no huge hurry for the parts. If you need help rummaging through the parts let me know..

Cliff
Don’t know if this will help, but if you have the sect ref numbers then I would try natolamps.com. They hold many classic and legacy lighting items. I have just purchased most of the Hunter cockpit lighting through them.
Many thanks for the information… will add this to the list of suppliers for this and future projects.
Best regards
Cliff
Hi Cliff,
If you want a long term loan e.g. 6-12 month I can send 2 x dolls eyes, 1 off Type 9547 Tacan Indicator and 2 x indicator lamps c/w lens.
I’ve been slowly tucking them away for a reproduction TANS pilot panel to replace XH133’s pre TANS panel currently fitted to 175.
Looking at this years restoration work plan I do not think I will be ready for fitting out until next winter. So they would fill the gaps until you source your own.
Regards
Ross
Hi Ross,
many thanks for the kind offer… To be honest I would rather like to purchase the items but I may have to take you up on it if all else fails. If you hear of any coming on the market please keep me in mind. I don’t know if Bruce has this sort of item in his stocks will have send him a mail…
regards Cliff
Hi Cliff,
Which marker light?
Inner/Middle/Outer
The oxygen indicator is a magnetic indicator (dolls eye) not a lamp. Do you need both pilot and navigator or pilot only?
Regards
Ross
Hi Ross,
All three ILS markers and 2 X dolls eye, also on the look out for a TACAN indicator…

Was working in the tower at Heathrow from 81 to 91 and I’m pretty shure that we had the odd 23 departure after T4 initally opened.. It was only after all the stands fully opened that 23 departures stopped.
As for the original question I’ll as my father who was also a controller at Heathrow 1960 to 1968 and see if he can recall
regards Cliff
Nice One Anna 🙂
Hey Cliffair – your reference to eBay made me smile, have you had a bad experience?
Andy.
Hi Andy, Personally No, i’ve been lucky but my father had all sorts of problems last year, but thats another story!
cheers
Cliff
Very sad to see those pictures… Spent a few happy hours doing touch n go’s at Benbecular in her. Arrrrr happy days!
.
After tomorrow things will be different, the drey horses delivering the beer to the pubs are to be retired, something that has gone unnoticed on the news tonight.
A.
Funny you should mention this Pete, the story was covered on BBC Breakfast this morning (8th Sept)
A very sad day indeed..
Cliff
Hey Anna, The pix are getting better and better…. must be all that practice 🙂
TTFN Cliff
Like Peter Cornwall I resisted reading this thread till after seeing the programme. Like Peter I thought it was both interesting and informative. Now having read the thread I think that some of the view points have been a blown out of proportion wee bit as tempers have fraid which is a pitty really as they all have their merits.
I know it’s has been mentioned before but Mr Saunders I must applaud you for the presentation of the flying helmet and goggles to DB’s widow that was one of the most unselfish actions I have seen an ages and has put a huge positive on the art of ‘aviation archaeology’ which I know has had bad press in the past. Congratulations!

Glad I got my Airfix TSR2 when I did!!
