No need for apologies Lyffe. When I said to whom should we send a PM, I was thinking back to an old (unnumbered) post which suggested that perhaps we had a line to Boris – hence my reference to 31 January!!
Peter, if you are moderating and reading this thread, do you have any way of contacting somebody who knows what is going on?
This is getting very close to the last throw of the dice.
Thanks Lyffe. I’ve tried jamesm.
I’ve no idea whether there is an email notification to him to say there is a PM waiting (as was previously the case), so we’ll just have to hope he is logging in to find out!
The continuing silence from Key must be rapidly exhausting the patience of those loyal followers who are still logging in to see what is happening. It has already exhausted the patience of many others who have gone elsewhere. Perhaps all those who designed this new platform are no longer with the company and someone else now has to familiarise themselves with the system design and programming before being able to address the problems identified on this thread. Or is something actually happening behind the scenes?
Is anyone from Key reading these comments? To whom should we send a PM? Could we get it (or something) done by 31 January?
From a personal perspective, the thread I started over 7 years ago on the Wreckage of Lancaster ED908 (60-Z) has accumulated 64 pages of photos, diagrams and discussion and had received over 195,000 views before the disaster which has befallen us (current number of views unknown). The photo-gallery could be transported anywhere, but not the thread itself. It is topics like this that should be at the heart of this forum. Is all this going completely to waste?
Come on Key. Where are you? What are you doing? Tell us please that it is not dead yet.
And is Jamesm still here? Or indeed anyone who can sort this out? Can we have a response from Key, please?
jamesm, could you please update us all on the current status of the matters referred to below in your response to me on 28 November – your comments are in bold.
Mirror page numbers on top and bottom of page (to avoid scrolling down) – I’ll check on this and come back to you
Remove (or reposition) ‘Privacy settings’ tag when use of Cookies approved – I’ll check on this and come back to you
Content of My Account (historic private messages/photos) lost – They’re not lost. Scheduled for a later update as theres a fair amount of work to do on this.
Reinstate ‘subscribed’ threads and e-mail messages for new posts – Should be released in the next update
Edit function on own posts (being worked on in response to jeepman’s post today, but first raised some while ago) – Is being worked on
Show number of views of thread and uploaded photos – Scheduled for a later update
Restoring numbering of posts – Scheduled for a later update
Trumper, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Perhaps we will eventually get our subscribed threads back with e-mail notifications of replies!
My connection with 60-Z is that my wife’s uncle, Jim Foulsham, was flying the aircraft when it was shot down over the Foret du Croc, south of Dieppe, while attacking a V1 site. It was the only Oboe Lancaster then operating. The 582 Sqn crew would have known your relative’s crew.
Wreckage from the aircraft is still being recovered and I have been running a thread for over 7 years during the course of which more than 200 items which have been discovered have been identified with the help of forum members and a plan has been created showing where the parts of the aircraft came to earth. There is a photo-gallery of the pieces found. The link to the thread is https://www.key.aero/forum/historic-aviation/123676-wreckage-of-lancaster-ed908-60-z?page=0
Yes, it would have been 60-R. As you may have noticed my avatar is 60-Z for Lancaster ED908, lost on 20 July 1944 shortly before ND810.
Trumper – good to hear from you again.
Herewith attached the extract from the 582Sqn ORB showing ND810 (R) failing to return.
I agree with you Sopwith and I have previously requested this on this thread. This might stimulate activity and help to counter what Air Ministry indicates is the case.
James,
Your response is much appreciated. Thank you.
That was quick!! Subject headers are now in bold!
James,
I am glad to see that a number of individual issues are now being addressed, but can you please update us on what is being done about the other issues raised in this thread. Some of the page layout issues have been dealt with, but others have not, for example:
Subject headers in bold font – use black for text
Mirror page numbers on top and bottom of page (to avoid scrolling down)
Remove (or reposition) ‘Privacy settings’ tag when use of Cookies approved
With regard to functionality:
Private Messages (member to member) – now no facility
Content of My Account (historic private messages/photos) lost
Reinstate ‘subscribed’ threads and e-mail messages for new posts
Edit function on own posts (being worked on in response to jeepman’s post today, but first raised some while ago)
Show number of views of thread and uploaded photos
Restoring numbering of posts
I appreciate that some of these may be seen as low priority, but some are probably ‘quick fixes’. Can you please confirm that these issues are being addressed and, if possible, provide an indication as to when we may see more changes.
Thank you.
It is good to see action at last to restore some functionality to the forum. I note that Peter’s post of 19 November which gave a timetable for future action has been reduced to the first four words: “More updates coming folks”, and my response to that has been deleted. Why? Presumably the intended timing has now altered.
My post of 5 November (page 12) attempted to summarise all the issues which had been raised. If this list could be used as the springboard for future action maybe, as Peter says, we can get this sorted. Could we please hear from Key accordingly?
This thread is seven years old today but there is not yet much to celebrate about the new-look forum. At least we can now view thumbnails of uploaded photographs. I am looking forward to seeing the other promised restorations of functionality. In particular I am hoping that the hyperlinks to the Photo-gallery and Index to parts found at the end of this post will be functioning once more. The number of views of the thread is no longer shown which is a pity, as it is helpful and encouraging to see the amount of interest generated in this, and other, topics. Fortunately, I had made a note of the total just before the change was made. There had been just over 195,700 at that time. I have asked for this feature to be restored along with the number of views of photos. Without this information, all postings on the forum are being made in a vacuum. Around 30 members of the forum have contributed to this thread over the years. Your comments have been invaluable, and I take this opportunity to thank you again. I hope most of you are still here and that some of you may respond to this post to let me know that you are!
There is currently nothing new to report from France, but last month I visited the National Memorial Arboretum for the first time. The weather was not good. There was so much to see and sadly, there was insufficient time to do all that my wife and I had wanted to. Nevertheless, the visit was memorable, and we hope to return at some time in the future.
I attach some pictures. On the left is the 109 Sqn memorial plaque referring to the contribution made by the Oboe Beam Bombers. On the right is the plaque marking the Victoria Cross awarded to Squadron Leader Robert Palmer of 109 Sqn, shot down in a daylight raid over Cologne while flying an Oboe-equipped Lancaster from 582 Sqn to mark the target in the same way that Jim Foulsham had been doing in ED908 near Dieppe a few months earlier. In both cases the forecast cloud over the target had disappeared. In the centre is a view of part of the RAF section of the arboretum.

Index to parts found and annotated illustrations:
Agreed Lyffe. Seven years of forensic research into a WW2 crash site in France (said to have been the only one conducted via the internet) extending over 64 pages with a photographic record of items found would simply disappear.
Khalem, I note your latest comments. My trawl through this thread has indicated the following items giving concern which I presume have been passed on to the development team. I may have missed some. I quite understand that some things will be quick fixes and others will take longer. I hope you will therefore be able to update us all on what is being actioned now and what will take further time.
