Thanks Funhouse.
I’ve got the noise (music !!) I need from that audio recording.
All of those Merlins and the Griffon engine noises just gives me goosebumps 😮
Am I alone in those having that effect on me ?
I tried to upload a *wav file of a Spit 14 but it is too large (3.8 MB and the limit is 2.0 MB). I got it off the web but I can not find it right now.
Christer
Thanks anyway.
Be great if you could find the link. 🙂
Fly-by one, most certainly! 😉
I’m sure there are some others featuring Griffs, so will have a look-see.
Don’t forget, the ex-AFC MkXIV is being rebuilt (slowly but surely) in New Zealand still…
Yes, that is true.
Be great whatever you could supply.
Cheers

In my opinion, “Saving Private Ryan” also conveys that human element really well,..if you can excuse the “P-51 Tank-Busters” line.
That first 20 minutes of trying to get onto the beach was mind-blowing !!
I am no Griffon expert but ths site claims to have the sound, just scroll down, click, listen, enjoy!!.
http://www.aircentre.com.au/aircraft/warbirds/mustang/sound.htm
Please confirm if this is a Griffon sound.
Regards,
John.
Hey John,
That sounds great but almost certainly a Merlin (not that there’s anything wrong with that !!)
Cheers,
TNz
Guess you will have to use your imagination Turbo, this is a griffon 61 ataround 1250 rpm.
Brrrm Brrrm Brrrm ,….hmmm, not quite working, I still get a Lycoming… 😀 😀
It’s been a while since we’ve had the pleasure of seeing and hearing a Griffon-powered Spitfire since Sir Tim Wallis wrote off his Mk XIV 🙁
This is for a friend who loves Spitfires but has never heard the difference in sound. I told him it sounds like a Merlin running on 11 cylinders !! 😀
So,….Mr Daz, you awesome fullah !! 😀 😀
Can I please have a sound bite (or 2) of a Griffon, whether it be flyby or start-up or idling….??
🙂
TNz, I have had this site bookmarked as a favourite for some time (everyone should have it!), all you have to do is go to ‘sounds’ and then hover your mouse over the desired one, right click and ‘save target as’ and hey presto you have downloaded flybys and start ups.
Alternativly just click on whatever one you want and listen as your ears are filled wth the delightfull sound of Merlins.

I hope you enjoy as much as I do!!!!!.

John.
Hey John,
There’s some great sounds on there, esp the B-17 flyby. Many thanks for the link!!!
Unfort no Girffon-powered Spit, ie Mk14,19,24 etc.
Cheers
His funeral is today (right now actually) with a Mustang flypast scheduled.
RIP
Once again, here’s 2 pics of a Chippie at that same Airshow this year.
🙂
Prompted by the G91 thread on the Modern Military board, what is the most significant warplane (numerically) never to see operational use? How about the B-47? If we limit it to British types, the Lightning?
What about the B-36 Peacemaker; 10 years active service, none used in combat. Did their job as a major deterrent.
Reminds me of how the British SAS are using those 2 ex-Argentinian Agusta A109 choppers for their missions. 😉
That is sad,…perhaps very small consolation that he died doing what he loved.
RIP.
WOW, GLENN,……THAT’S WICKED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If this is a “add your Percival aircraft pic” thread then here’s mine.
Taken earlier this year at Wings Over Wairarapa Airshow here in NZ.

Good post JDK.
However, with Mr Jackson’s passion for WW1 aircraft, you knew he wasn’t going to make the Helldiver’s cheap and tacky: CGI and Life-Sized.
I’ve seen the 30min long movie about the making of the aerial scenes with the Helldiver. From memory he even had the radial actually running on the mock-up.
Other movie makers wouldn’t have gone to that length of realism.
