Anyone else notice that the landing gear lever is selected to the UP (retracted) position?? Doesn’t appear to be “in the gate”, tho. Still, not a preferred practice.
Has the identifcation of the Hurricane pilot been released?
Rocketeer- I very well may be interested in what you can locate, either what’s on hand or perhaps the possibility or a re-cast.
Herbert, Thanks for the lead, I’ve attempted to contact Horst, no luck yet. The web site does not apperar active. We’ll see.
Just as an aside , this particular 109 may, in the near furture, be appearing at an airshow near you.
Thanks for the replies, gents. Jager, the grip itself appears to be cast – top armament switch apparently pressed in. Side button (cannon?) is held in place with a bracket (labeled W-25, add on?). Bruce, I’ve assumed that replacement plastic parts for 60 year old German armament aren’t exactly an off the shelf venture, but that makes the the quest more challenging, eh?
It’s called the Niagaga Aerospace Museum and it’s located right in the “downtown” area. The address is 345 Third Street and it’s right next door to ths Seneca Casino (formerly the Niagara Falls Convention Center).
I’ve been there a couple of times and I’d recommend it if your in the area. To me, the best artifact they’ve got is a Bell P-39 on loan from Smithsonian NASM (actually a P-400, never military), plus the Bell X-22A VTOL/tiltroter.
All in all some great displays forms some folks who are really trying hard to create a world class exhibit.
If you’re in Niagara Falls, Ont., don’t forget the Russell Group’s Collection on Sodom Road, in Chippawa Ont, about 10 minute drive from NF. Spitfire Mk. 9,
Hurricane Mk. XII, ME-109E4 – what more can I say?
Hope this helps,
Rob G.
The title of the book is “Everything But The Flak“, written by Martin Caiden in the mid sixties.. Long out of print, but still well worth looking for.
Don’t forget the Martin Caiden book, “Everything but the Flak”, relating the true story of the ferrying of 3 B-17s eastbound across the pond to the UK for the film (featuring Caiden copiloting B-17 N9563Z aka THE BODY aka FUDDY DUDDY ). Long out of print, but a great read and well worth looking for.
