You can use electric Start. One T5 (or was it a T4) had electric start fitted from new (it was one of the prototype A/C) it was the same system fitted to the Comet, and its the same system used in Hunters to convert from Avpin/Cartridge starts to electric, because the Hunters have the same problem where to get Avpin/Carts from.

To dismantle a Lightning mmmmm (O yes if done one) 10 men plus all the tools and 7 days i’ll see if I can find the pics

There was only one No2 pipes that came out of BAe (all the spares went to Plymouth for a couple of years, I helped to off load the lorries). BAe in the later stages of Foxhunter had to go to Plymouth to get spares to keep there jets flying because MOD had sold all there Lightning spares lol. But i was wrong 2 No2 pipes went with the jets to S.A.. One was already at Plymouth plus one from BAe. It was that bad 693 came to Exeter with a crack in the No2 pipe because BAe had’nt got a spare to replace it, thats why in my pic on page one with 693 some of the panels are off, we just change the pipe and done a full re-heat check and that was fun sat on the tail looking in for hot gas/fuel leaks when she was in full re-heat lol

p.s. u can just see my legs under the nose

    With the S.A. jets
F.I. on XS 452 Sorry i do not know but will find out
XR 773 Has a few more year in her
XP 693 / XS 451 Possible as much as 10000hours left. Both are at about 1/2 F.I. life and with my experience with R.A.F. Opps and Civil Opps, with the R.A.F. they used about 20 times the F.I. per flight over Civil Opps ( well it is with Hunters)

The real problem is spares, if i remember right the BIG spare problem is S.A. is they only have ONE spare No. 2 re-heat pipe !!!!!! (and the pipes are life per flying hour)
