Hi CADman
Wings are from P2183 I believe, according to Warbird resource group they were from a Canadian farm.
Nice job Waynne!
Simon
I’ve just realised something – the canopies on the G-12 hinge at the top, rather than at the cockpit side like the single-seater. Don’t think I’ve ever noticed that before!
Same for the Fw190 trainer, although later ones had flat side panels for the instructor and a “crimped” middle section for supposed better vision. I’ll take the back seat ride if everyone else thinks it’s too ugly :D;)
Beautiful tin bashing gentlemen, and beautiful photography Matthias!
Hi Jack
The unit badge and clog represent ZG26 “Horst Wessel”, the white part is a combination of the H and W initials. The aircraft may have flown with this unit.
Someone from Medway APS should be able to help with the Spitfire.
Cheers
Simon
CD,
The story goes that one or more of the blades were damaged and cut, the other blades were then cut to balance them out for engine runs. Could be urban myth, I don’t know…
Hampden,
Was the V1 engine run at Lasham?
I’d like to see the FW190 go to Cosford and for both aircraft restored to running condition, they were properly inhibited after their last runs from what I was told (didn’t see any hardware stuff being used, just standard RAF nuts and bolts and ally ;)).
Perhaps they could be added to the apprentice training program (already very good) and eventually run at the airshow, get the kids interested in becoming part of a museum just as I was *** years ago 😉

Hi Howard
😀
Not sure if this is the same year:

The Ki-100 also ran but this happened before I joined the museum. There was also a Gnome rotary engine on a stand which ran as well.

OK thanks Andy

Hi all
Good news indeed. Do you think that bomber training flights (1942) would be included, or would that fall into the FA category?
Thanks
Simon
Thanks Mike J for the correction, duly amended.
Also thanks to pistonrob for starting this thread, it’s been nice looking back through all the photos, although a DSLR would have been handy at the time!

Thanks nuuumannn,
Of course, senior moment there! Getting my Battles mixed up, pretty sure the wings went to Australia though stand to be corrected. There is another in Lincolnshire which I haven’t heard about in some time as well….

Hi James
That’s right, I believe Len Woodgate, ex Cosford curator was also involved. The wings of P2183 were in between the hangars, I think these are now with the Subritsky(?) Battle in Australia. Looking at these shots there were a hell of a lot of movements in the 4 years I was there!

Hi TonyA
Wow!! Thanks so much for posting that video! It’s a bit like the buses, wait 20 odd years and then 2 pop up together!
Very much appreciated, you and Ian have made my year 🙂
Wonder if there are any more St Athan delights out there 😎
Cheers
