Brilliant stuff, thanks Bruggen for posting that pic, wish I’d have asked for the back seat during one of those runs!:)
Thanks too for Ian for posting that clip. PM sent.
The only one I didn’t see running was the Ki-100. Maybe an idea for Cosford and Hendon to get these running again once in a while :diablo:
Keep ’em coming.

Hi Ian
Have just joined you group, I can’t wait for your video to be uploaded, I have been waiting a long time for one to surface (c 20years!). I was a volunteer at the museum for 4 years up until it closed. A couple of shots of the Me410 and FW190 running below:).
Do you also have video of the FW190 running? I would be very grateful to see it if you have!
W/C Brindley is correct, also in the photos are Sgt Paul Burgess, Cpl Martin Simmonds(?), J/Tech Chris Batchelor and Tony Earp(?) who was also a volunteer and I believe ex RN flier on I think Avengers.
If anyone else has photos (or video!) of these 2 running and could share with me please let me know. I have only seen a couple of other shots from JDK anywhere on the net.

Revisiting an old thread
Hi Guys
Last Wednesday was the 70th anniversary of the crash I have been researching. A visit was in order and after seeing Just Jane and the Memorial Flight I placed my poppy cross at the edge of Ostler’s plantation overlooking what was once the north end of the Woodhall Spa main runway.
I now have the accident forms from Hendon and Kew which show that a broken oil pipe was the cause of the propeller feathering. Does anyone know if Rolls Royce have a research section where they may have accident investigation reports regarding the engines (I have the engine numbers)?
Thanks
Si
Hi Guys
There’s some new photo’s (to me at least!) here…

Fair enough chaps if that is the general concensus!
A couple from me, the Ki100 on Sunday:

And circa 1989 at St Athan in much the same state before heading to Cosford in much the same state!:

David,
I believe the Bloodhound is just by the entrance to the MBCC, no photo though

Found them James!
In the second there is a link to the South Wales Aviation Group which shows the aircraft at the different airshows over the years.

Hi James
To be honest (due to my hideous memory), I thought it was about 1990 or ’91 when most of the collection left, but I came across this site which gives details of each aircrafts movements, so it must have been either 1989 or possibly 1988:
http://ciapoldiescorner.blogspot.com/2009/01/100503-focke-achgelis-fa.html
The picture of the Fw190 was taken standing on the wing of the Me410. There must be some video footage somewhere of these two in action, but I haven’t found it yet (been searching for a long time!)
Regarding the cut props, I believe this was due to an accident whilst moving the aircraft, bending the ends of either 1 or 2 blades. See the photo below of the props cut compared to a photo taken by PenPusher at Cosford in ’85 here:
http://brianamarshall.fotopic.net/c1183845.html
The engines of these two aircraft were inhibited, so should be capable of running again. We have a damn sight more engineering knowledge, information and technology than we ever had in those days, so these things should be used to their full potential! Perhaps kids would remember a trip to these museums even more seeing these things coming to life rather than just walking by “another” exhibit. Perhaps a chance for another spotty teenager like I was to get his hands dirty helping to maintain them.
Bring them all back down to sunny South Wales and we can stick them in our nice, modern, empty Super Hangar:diablo:

Must’ve been Wales, it was raining.
Just to prove to JDK that it doesn’t rain in Wales ALL the time!:D
First of all, apologies to Brian for creeping into this thread, lovely photos as per usual!
Tony, thanks particularly for the SWAG blog link I had not seen that one before. I remember one of the coolant lines blowing off during the first run of the day at the At Home day one year. Needless to say that was it for that year!
Can’t remember the reason for cutting the props, but as Cees says it ws probably standard practice to bring everything back into balance. Either that or find a new blade!
Here are a couple of photos of her running:

Good times!
I’m sure it wouldn’t take too much to get these aircraft running again. Think it would be a crowd puller!

Hi Peter
I believe the props were cropped in the 80’s (problems with one or two blades, so the rest had the same treatment) The paint scheme was last done in 90>91 so not original, I believe the Horst Wessel markings are spurious.
If anyone has photos or video of this or the 190 running, I would be most interested.
TonyT, were you there in the late 80’s? Do you have a copy of the sound recordings?
I have photos of one of the runs, do I need a photobucket account or similar to post them?

Hi guys
Just had a look at this link (thanks Roger!)…
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7747063.stm.
It’s definately L5343, although why it’s up at Cosford I’m not sure. I’m sure I saw pictures at UKAR of it at Hendon, wings and wheels on. Perhaps they had some ‘fit’ issues, as I know they were unable to test fit at MAPS. Perhaps someone can find out something during their visit?
The open days come a week to late for me as I was only up in Telford for Scalemodelworld last Sunday. Typical!:rolleyes:

Hi Guys
I didn’t know they had a Battle at Cosford?!.
Which one is it? Substantial or small parts? The only others I knew of were at Hendon and parts in Linolnshire.

Thanks for that JBS, just had a look at the SAAM website. It’s nice to know those wings are still in existance and being restored! Now to find out what happened to the part sectioned BMW003 that I helped restore!

Heres some S/N’s for Aircraft & remains (not including the OZ/NZ remains)from the Warbird Registry -Fairy Battle
L5340
L5343
P2183
P2234
P3950
R7384
RCAF2139
RCAF3947
The wings for P2183 were stored outside the museum at RAF St Athan up until about ’92 (I’m not to sure if any other parts were recovered then incorporated into L5343 or whether the wings arrived on their own). I wonder if they are in storage with the RAF museum (Stafford or Cosford maybe?) or were sold on to another project. I just hope they weren’t scrapped:eek:. They certainly seemed to be a good basis for restoration.
Cheers

Thought that was on a Lancaster, maybe wrong though (quite often!)
