I can only echoe the above comments, a sad loss.
I don’t like the snobbery coming from certain people, i find offensive that you believe you have to be over 40, dress smartly and talk only about certain things to be an aviation historian.
From ‘some well angree yoof and that, er dat dokyoumentree well cool innit’
NO:rolleyes:
I didn’t mean you Tangmere1940, I mean the nit pickers.
Cheers
Well Boo Hoo!
Did you know there is this thing called a remote, and when there is something you don’t like on, you use the remote and turn it over. You didn’t have to watch it through, you weren’t forced to.
I for one enjoyed the programme, so i’m happy,
i suggest instead of complaining on here, you go and complain to channel 4.
Cheers,

I found a picture of him and his crew, some newspaper cuttings, after a trawl through google. It’s fascinating finding out about individuals, and their stories.
Thanks for the help chaps
Thanks Kev and Avro, i will look further into it.
Fantastic paint scheme.
Or you could go to an air display and watch the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight…
…which would require a lot less imagination! 😉
Welcome to the forum by the way. 🙂
Certainly, You can’t beat the real thing, the Battle of Britain memorial flight is fantastic,
Oh and thanks for welcome
I’m ‘Yoof’ as well, but I don’t need historic aircraft hung from the ceiling in random attitudes or a big weird building to learn about a battle.
No, i agree, i don’t mind how aircraft are displayed, i’m happy with them on the ground, i’m happy with them on the ceiling, I like them on the ground as you can see the detail of them, how they work, but i also like them high up, because it provokes imagination, as to how it would of looked in the air, you get a feel for the gravity of them (strange?, i know). I’m into modern display techniques, it’s a question of taste to be honest. I do like the original hangars at Duxford, they have nice, vintage feel about them, a time capsule.
I personally don’t see the problem with this new building, it is what it is, a landmark dedicated to Battle of Britain, sure, it’s huge and costs 80 million, but it’s worth it, in my opinion. The cost the men and women payed during those dark days of 1940, was considerably more.
Also, don’t have a problem with hanging Aircraft from the roof (Ready for the flak), museums aren’t monsters who do it on purpose to annoy entheusiasts, they look geniuely fantastic, it doesn’t destroy them, they wouldn’t allow it. It creates the sense of the aircraft flying, which i like.
It will hopefully inspire young people, such as myself, they need to be aware of why they are here, and why they have their freedoms, because of the sacrifices and triumphants of the people who fought in all aspects of the war.
But then again, i’m ‘Yoof’ so what do i know?
