I don’t know the background to this and maybe it’s me being a cynical old ****** but if this ac went in from a great height with a full bomb load and exploded on impact, I’m not sure there’s going to be much to recover. And as for remains of the crew…..?
Or is it me?

Damage to the ‘up’ lock I would think. The gear isn’t held up by hyd px.
Great! Next time I’m in Calgary I’ll head down the Deerfoot for a looksee.

Good oh. I chucked a couple of hundred Canadian in the donations box when I visited in 2010 – glad to see its been put to good use. Even my (then) 18 y/o son was impressed at being able to go into the aircraft and that 60 years earlier, young men only slightly older than he would have been going to war in it.
Is the ultimate plan to get it in the air or is it beyond that. I had a mooch around the one in YYC too but that looked pretty tired.

Excuse my ignorance….is this the one at Nanton?

Next thing you know they’ll start calling aircraft ‘ships’!

I’m sure Old Sarum Flying Club will interested to find they’re operating from a disused aerodrome….
Which one has the Stirling in it?
The DC-8 was a much nicer looking aircraft than the 707…..
Such a good looking aeroplane; those flaps are enormous!
The agreement with the Burmese Government was signed less than a week ago and the ground is still quite water-logged. Suitable conditions don’t usually exist until latter half of November.
Well, personal experience of maintaining aircraft in a jungle environment tells me that if these aircraft have been buried in the jungle for 60+ years in an area which floods and dries annually, there’s not going to be much left. No matter how well they may have been preserved when (if) they were buried; preservation oil and even hot-applied lanolin doesn’t last forever.
They might find a few s/steel or brass data plates and various steel components but aluminium and mag alloy don’t take kindly to that kind of treatment.
I hope to be proved wrong.

FFS!
Why don’t they just dig the bloody things up? Are they waiting for the price to up or something?

PS. My brother’s, girlfriend’s, mate’s, uncle’s, step-father’s, uncle’s, brother used to fly Lancasters and says there’s a whole squadron of them wrapped in grease-proof paper and buried in Tierra del Fuego.
A narrow tube of steel??? Wrestled with the controls??? WTF? Maybe there was school in the area. Hero pilots always wrestle with the controls to avoid a school.

We got one!
Stand down, we found one. Many thanks to everyone who helped.
