The computer network in the Dreamliner’s passenger compartment, designed to give passengers in-flight internet access, is connected to the plane’s control, navigation and communication systems, an FAA report reveals.

Very stupid network design, im guessing there would be some sort of VLAN provision.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know if the daily BA service to Bermuda will go back to Heathrow once T5 comes online? their was rumours some time back that this would be changed

As for fuel efficiency how about nuclear energy replacing kerosene, as the technology matures it will become possible for better miniaturisation, small enough to fit in an aircraft…

However i do know that the a/c was not ETOP’s approved, meaning the a/c has to take a longer routing to get to Bermuda, which can have a nasty knock-on effect. I believe they have or will shortly be receiving ETOPS approval so things should improve soon.

2 hours extra to what is usually a 7 hour flight:mad:

Er… did the 767 have a predecessor ? The Tristar or DC-10 maybe ? As for going for 787’s in twenty years, I wonder if the line will still be open then ?

Er…successor:) bit off topic but i do think the line could last till then, i think generic 767 lasted for over 20yrs??

I was referring to people making comments regarding MD-11’s and 787’s!

If you read what i said, you will understand that im trying to make the point that if Jet2 are looking at a 767 sized aircraft then whats to stop them say in 5-10-15-20 years going in for the 767s predecessor, Boeings 787. My bad if its not put that way:)

Going further afield to Pakistan/India, it depends if you want to compete directly with MAN with non-stop service (if we remember than airblue intend non-stop services as and when they get the equipment) or offer one-stop service like the set up at BHX where a variety of airlines operate BHX-“homebase”-India/Pakistan.

Their isn’t a sizable Indian community in Yorkshire to warrant any kind of service to India – the only slight possibility i could see for India is one of charters to Goa and the like, flights to Pakistan is a different matter, Bradford and South Yorkshire towns have sizable Pakistani communities which i believe could sustain such a service.

MAN is relatively close by and we have regular flights to LHR and AMS, so getting a connection to most long haul destinations is never really that difficult.

Very true but both are limiting, AMS means you have to go on KLM and LHR means you probably lose your bags, if Air France and or Lufthansa set up in the future then it would be perfect.

i could see them leasing 787s in the future.

With the greatest respect guys, this thread is getting really, really stupid. You’re now speculating how Jet2 could lease an aircraft that’s years from entering commercial service and how they would configure an A330 when we don’t even know if they’ll get 767’s yet! Come on, people, get a grip!

PNM, please re-read what I said with onus on the word future, IF and WHEN Jet2 purchase a couple of 767s then what’s to stop them from leasing 787s

I think the hedge Jet2 have on the price of oil comes to an end in 2007/2008, therefore I think their going to take a hit when they start paying full price, Jet2 therefore needs aircraft which are more efficient, personally I would love A330s in Jet2 colours but because of commonality issues thats never going to happen, i could see them leasing 787s in the future.

In regards to Gulf Air 767-300ERs, would Jet2 change them in anyway – IF they get them, they have 218 economy seats in 2-3-2 (31″-32″) config with 18 business (48″) in 2-2-2 config – would they take out the biz seats and put in more economy seats?

Guys i came across a Haaretz article entitled…

Skyguard may be rising from the dead

    By Barak Ravid

The government is considering resuming funding for the advanced laser-based Skyguard missile protection system, security officials told Haaretz. They added that if the system is approved, it can be operational within 18 months.

The project was dropped about a year and a half ago, despite several successful tests and in spite of repeated rocket attacks from Lebanon and the Gaza Strip, but Public Security Minister Avi Dichter has been enlisted to spearhead the effort to resurrect Skyguard by a strong lobby group, including former defense ministry officials, that has developed.

    http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/888921.html

The article continues by stating “Olmert and Peretz’s decision to go ahead with the Iron Dome project was made in conjunction with the Defense Ministry’s recommendation to develop the system in Israel, and facilitated by the fact that a foreign country agreed to allocate considerable funds toward developing the system

which foriegn country is funding this project i wonder? Could it be India

That is not the point though. The point is “opportunity cost”.

What can they now do with those LHR slots that they couldn’t do before? What would they rather operate, LHR-LBA or LHR-LAX?

No brainer. This route and others are for the chop, whether they are filling the planes or not

What makes you think BMI will drop the regions completely to further develop its LHR operations, SMB prides its airline to be a truly British airline that has representation within the country, I for one think BMI will reduce frequency but not chop them altogether,

Using the regions to feed the LHR network seems to be obligatory, without the regions it doesn’t make sense.

Who says they will go long haul with them? They can easily be put on there spanish services, what means the 757’s and 737’s are free to do shorter routes if they require, lba wont get a long haul service because the runway is just not long enough. The rumour about Doncaster has been around for ages … i will believe it when i see it 🙂

Just for anyone who’s curious, quote from Boeing viz. 767 runway requirements –

With its advanced-design wing and powerful engines, and at a maximum gross weight of 300,000 pounds (136,080 kg), the basic 767-200 can take off on only 5,700 feet (1,735 m) of runway. It can operate nonstop between New York and San Francisco with a two-class load of 224 passengers. Even the extended-range version of this airplane, the 767-200ER, with a maximum takeoff weight of 395,000 pounds (179,170 kg), can take off on about 8,100 feet (2,480 m) of runway. It can fly nearly 6,600 nautical miles (12,223 km), making possible such nonstop flights as New York to Delhi; London to Singapore; and Beijing to Sydney, Australia, with 181 passengers in a three-class configuration

LBIAs 14/32 runway being at 2250m means a basic 767-200 can make it at maximum gross weight, the ER version will be pushing it but can do it if its not at full gross weight.

Well considering that one of the key sectors of Leeds economy is financial services, i think their should be a LCY link, it will be good for the Leeds economy and facilitate Leeds as a back office.

Air India has released their Worldliner seatmap.

It has 8 F seats, 1-2-1, and 35 business class seats 7 abreast. Economy is 9 abreast, allegedly at 34 inch pitch.

    Any additional interior details?

    When do the Worldliners arrive?

    Which routes would they fly?

If its 34-inch, then that would be comfortable. I think they will be used on the North American routes.
