Scott,
Can I ask what the hangar displays consisted of this year? The last time I was there they were pretty much all various sections of RAF Leuchars, rather than the various local clubs and societies like the display used to be. I’d much rather go and see a display from Dumfries and Galloway Aviation Museum, for example, than one by the Fire Section of Leuchars, and this change a few years ago was one of the reasons for me not going back. I’d be interested to know if this is still the case – your photos make it look as though the indoor exhibition was a bit more interesting this year!

it’s goo to see what I missed.
That should, of course, read good! I really must learn to type!!
Thanks for the photos, Scott. I had to work on Saturday, so it’s goo to see what I missed. I would have loved to see Sally B, but I’m just glad there was at least some interesting aircraft there. It’s also no surprise that there were multitudes of Tornadoes on display! Having said that, I love the Luftwaffe Tornado paint scheme.
Do please post your photos of the flying display when you get them developed.

Just thought you might like to know, Dezz, in the Daily Express ‘Saturday’ magazine from yesterday, there’s an interview with Suzanna York and she is quoted as saying she’s looking for a man! Could be your lucky day! 🙂
Kev,
I don’t know if it’s co-incidence, but the query has just been dealt with on the RAF Commands bulletin board, here:
As far as I know, the swastika and any other totalitarian images are completely banned. Certainly, the swastika is ground off any Iron Crosses or Knights Crosses before they can be sold. I don’t think it is an offence to own anything with such images – ie wartime veterans can still keep their bits and pieces – but I think it is illegal to sell or trade anything with such depictions.
But I daresay someone better informed will be able to tell me I’m completely wrong!

So you’re saying then, that the Scots had no a*ses.
Of course the Scots have a*ses. Who do you think are our southern next-door neighbours? 😀
That’s sure to prompt a torrent of abuse from all you Sassenachs. 😉

Hollywood and “accurate portrayal” aren’t words you often hear used together. Look at the a*se they made of Braveheart for example.
I know it’s well off topics, but I’d have to say that my favourite bit in Braveheart has to be the ‘representation’ of the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297. The crucial element to this victory was that Wallace and Murray were smart enough to wait until the English cavalry was halved either side of the narrow bridge. Tactically, they played it spot on. What happens in the film? For a start, there’s no bridge!! Then they shows the Scots winning by showing their a*ses and charging across a field.
No doubt this film will portray the Yanks as winning the Battle of Britain single handed, perhaps with a single stereotypical upper class Englishman providing minimal assistance:rolleyes:
No disrespect to Billy Fiske or any of the many US volunteers who came and helped with the British war effort, at great personal risk, but I will be very surprised if this latest Hollywood blockbuster is going to even begin to be an accurate portrayal.
As I mentioned I’ve never been to Digby but I know a retired Air Vice-Marshal who was there this summer and he mentioned it was superb and well worth visiting. I’ve no particular axe to grind, but it does seem to be somewhere deserving of our support.
It might be worth making contact with the Battle of Britain Society. I suspect they will probably be organising something to mark BoB Day, but not being a member of the BoBS I can’t say for certain. Perhaps other forum members may be able to provide details of BoB commemorative events which are being organised?
Oops… Forgot to include details of the Museum website, which I assume is still live.
I must admit I’ve never been to the Ops Room Museum at RAF Digby, but have seen photos of it and it looks a very good recreation. I really must get down there sometime!
Anyway, I have a small flyer for it (from the 2000 season) which notes that it’s open every Sunday from 7 May – 24 September at 11 am. Group visits are by prior arrangement. Admission is free, though donations would be most welcome.
There is no need to book, just arrive at the Sports Ground car park on the B1191 between the A15 and Scopwick, south of Lincoln. Visitors will be met by a guide and the tour will depart promptly so please arrive in good time.
Bearing in mind that the flyer is a little out of date, it’s probably worth contacting the Visitor Co-ordinator on 01526 327657 between 8am and 5pm Mon-Fri.
Hope this helps.
