Military Airfield directory (Cold War Air Bases)
Here is an interesting site about Cold War airbases with lots of relevant information on the subject :
IAPR 27
Yes I know : http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=105733
I seriously doubt that there is a black one. Never saw any pictures of it. Here pictures of the HN-444 made from 2004 until today in only the standard grey finish :
Posturing really by the Argentines, they have known for years that Typhoon would be based on the Falklands due to Tornado retirement. They probably protested the Tornado’s and the Phantoms when they were deployed south.
Yes and since they have only less than ten old Mirages and Skyhawks (each) flyable there is nothing they can do other than protest. 😉
That;s because it was not accepted in service yet. It is a test plane and it belongs to Alenia and not RoAF.
Thanks Tomcat1974 for the info. How do you know and why has it full Romanian markings, titles etc. Is it going to be delivered to the RoAF soon??
There is no word of it at at the RoAF website yet.
And the same goes for the Alenia website: nothing about a delivery to the RoAF…
Here some more pics of the Air Day at Otopeni were the C-27J was shown : http://romanian-spotters.forumer.ro/demonstratii-aeriene-2009-f41/baza-90-transport-aerian-gheorghe-banciulescu-19072009-ziua-portilor-deschise-t2367-25.htm
Is it officially delivered or just shown at an Air Day??
There is no word of it at at the RoAF website yet.
Are the Fencers flying again?
Russian Air Force grounds all Su-24 bombers after crash – source
MOSCOW, June 19 (RIA Novosti) – The Russian Air Force on Friday halted flights by all Su-24 Fencer tactical bombers following a second crash in three days, a Defense Ministry source said.
The Air Force has yet to make an official announcement.
A Su-24 bomber crashed earlier on Friday in the Rostov region of southern Russia, with both pilots ejecting safely.
A Defense Ministry source said the crash was caused by “the failure of a system.”
On Wednesday, a Su-24 aircraft crashed on a runway as it landed, but both pilots also ejected safely.
However, Su-24 flights continued after the Wednesday crash, which occurred in the Murmansk region in the far northwest.
“This Su-24 crash is not a catastrophe and therefore flights by this type of aircraft have not been suspended,” a Defense Ministry spokesman said at the time.
The Su-24 is a two-seat, twin-engine tactical bomber similar to NATO’s Tornado and Mirage 2000 planes.
The plane has been in service with the Russian Air Force since the mid-1970s. However, in recent years Russia has gradually been phasing out the planes, which have a patchy safety record.
According to the Defense Ministry, the Su-24 will be gradually replaced with new Su-34 Fullback strike aircraft, which has the potential to become the top plane in its class for years to come.
Do the Fencers fly again?? I may be visiting Russia in August and like to see some of them flying … 😎 Any info available??
Please stand corrected !!!
So if AFM is ‘ not truly “the Worlds leading miltary aviation magazine” any suggestions for which magazine is? While it will never be everything that everyone would like — it is the best in its catagory.
With regard to the ‘ (see the overload of PAF articles recently)’ — once again —- the last PAF Cheif interview was in Sept 08 and the last feature ( if it qualifies for that- being only 2 pages long) on the Paf was in Nov 08 —- thats 9…. count them ………9 months ago that we had the last PAF ‘feature’ — it wasn’t even an article — just a few pictures ——– and that qualifies as ‘overload of PAF articles recently’
Sounds to me like some members specific dislike for the PAF for nationalistic reasons is clouding their comments about AFM in general.
I cannot name the Worlds best. Most military aviation magazines have their own region they focus on. If I had to name one which has a truly international readership and who deserves the title I would name International Air Power Review (although it has its own share of problems ;))
Regarding the overload I can only say that numbers are not important, it is the impression that counts which AFM readers seem to notice and bother ….
Of course trying to play the nationalistic card here CAT1 is a funny move since most readers are just interested in beautiful and exotic military aircraft and not local politics. (at least I am ….:p)
Not a fan at all !!!
Just for the record I am not at all a fan of AFM and know how hard it is to make a good magazine. :p
Part of the problem is of course that AFM is it not truly “the Worlds leading miltary aviation magazine” if they are so dependant on the British market (the reason for so many UK related articles).
Furthermore the personal preferences and “opportunities” of the AFM editors clearly influences the content of the magazine to much (see the overload of PAF articles recently). A more open minded market-approach (and more self-critics) would definately lead to greater diversity :dev2:.
