Good video! I’d have hated to have picked that lot up though! Dozens of the little blighters!

Unless it’s already been done elsewhere (without the odd translations that Babelfish can throw up), I can forward it to a friend’s wife as she’s Czech. Luckily, she understands our fascination with aircraft (and thankfully, rallying as well!).

If some artifacts are left inside, let’s just hope the place is securely locked up, otherwise the Evil Bay comment by Cypherus may, sadly, come true.
Is this closure a bit sudden or has it been on the cards for a while then? Pity, we were planning on visiting the place sometime soon. Unfortunately, I never managed to sample the food but the beer was well-kept! Sorry to see it go 🙁
Chris
Duly signed.

The centrefold is amazing, 474 in her new colours over the Derwent Dam.
If you’ve not seen it, join and get a free copy of the journal!!

Missed that one then! When did it fly over the dams?

The AJ Jackson collection website is run by David Jackson on behalf of Brooklands. The pictures are obtainable from David but the reproduction and copyright fees are negotiatated directly with Brooklands (Julian Temple).
It is a superb collection and I used a few in my book.
Likewise Old Git. Both 1Group and myself have included a couple of photos from the Collection for our forthcoming book on RAF Ashbourne and Darley Moor and they were more than helpful. As long as the photos were credited appropriately AND they were mentioned in the acknowledgments they were fine about it. That and us reciprocating with some free copies but that isn’t a problem! More than happy to do that.
We also found that the Caterpillar Club and Airborne Systems (Irvin Airchutes) were happy for us to use a promo photo of the gold Caterpillar tie-pin, free of use so long as it was properly credited. Again a reciprocal arrangement was made (they were quick to respond too!).
Interesting discussion, if only to show that the issue of copyright can be a grey area which I think is largely due to differing copyright laws in different countries. Perhaps one area where new authors/researchers (such as ourselves) may be tempted to “cut corners” is on grounds of cost. We found some superb photos of Albermarles which would have been perfect but sadly, the cost to use them is for us, for the time-being at least, prohibitive (there are, as many on here have found, plenty of other items when writing a book which can eat a meagre budget!). Sure, we could have copied them and used them anyway, but why take the risk!
I’m sure the more seasoned writers/editors can comment.
Chris
Anyone care to translate what it says? Be interesting to see the description (or at least the general gist of it anyway!)
Chris
RAF Grimsby (Waltham) also had such a system. Links to a couple of photos I took in 2005 slots in the main N/S runway, which may or may not be part of these experiments:

Also, although I don’t have a photo, Lincolnshire Aviation Hetitage Centre also have an example of the bit which did the work – cable drum, etc. but it’s not in anywhere as a goog a condition as the shots in the post above!

Hi Richard,
Brand new memorial erected largely by the efforts of Buckminster Gliding Club at Saltby. It’s on the peri-track near to the club’s premises. Went up on September 17th this year (think they said the 17th but defo September). It’s a nice effort.

Can forward of you want copies.
Can you PM re. this Saturday mate?
Chris
Does this mean someone is going to have stump up a quid to uncover this, undoubtedly, fascinating history?
And no, I’m not!
Wonder why the ‘warning’ has gone though?
Chris
DeanK – Thanks for the web site plug! 😀 I’ve only come across this thread and was about to suggest it myself but you’ve done it for me!
This pleasure flying from beaches is fascinating but I suspect in today’s risk-averse world, it wouldn’t be allowed! Mind you, it didn’t stop the RAF plonking a pair of Squirrels and a Chinook on Southport’s beach last Saturday though! The B & W photos above are brilliant. Makes you wonder how many more gems like this are lurking, forgotten, in family photo albums.
Chris
I was wondering about the Hunter too – very lacklustre unfortunately. In answer to someone’s point, were WERE near a speaker but nothing was said as to why it kept disappearing off towards Blackpool for lengthy periods! There just didn’t seem to be any ‘effort’ – a real shame.
The gap in between the ‘bombimg’ of the beach was, apparently, something to do with Blackpool ATC, although exactly what either wasn;t said or we missed it.
It was our first visit there and arrived way too early but in the end, overall, worth it. And the weather held! The P-51 was a nice surprise, too.
Chris
If they’re filming in Scampton, this place will do well!

I CAN reccomend it 😀

God what a bloody awful day, especially if it IS true that Colin has been killed.
It started off so sunny, friendly and positive and now both of these incidents. Words of condolence don’t seem to fit the bill really – how can one find them? It is so hard. I’m just so sorry for ALL concerned. Completely gutted.
Chris
The helicopter crash is currently all over the news like a rash (I’m currently listening to BBC Radio 5) and at the moment, it’s all the usual media speculation as to who was on board. This probably because the incident involving the helicopter took place on/near the McRea estate. Whether Colin was in it or not is another question. For the time being, I reckon this thread should be open to condolences and not speculation – nothing else.
It has been a very tragic day.
