My deepest sympathy and condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the pilot. I can only really echo what has been said previously on here as words are difficult to find for this sort of happening aren’t they?
God Bless
Chris
That works. Now if only I could get it to recognise my joystick. 🙁
Moggy
Moggy,
I’m using the same version as you and it won’t see my stick either! Using the keyboard is a tad difficult, as you seem to need more finders than usual. Just acase of getting used to it, I suppose. BTW, you don’t alt’s and ctrl’s and Win-keys in this version – it’s accessible via the ‘Tools’ drop-down 🙂
Chris
Bex,
You might be interested to know that Model Alliance are releasing the decals for this aircraft in both 1:72 and 1:48. Look here and scroll down a bit for info.

Mind you, they bound to be fiddley so perhaps you excellent efforts at hand painting are the way to go but it isn’t something I’d take on in a hurry – well done, looks good!
Chris
It’s certainly showing in Sheffield on Tuesday night. Might have to give them a ring! If it it’s going to be anything like the “Get Carter” re-release of a few years ago, then getting in the queue might be worthwhile!
I’ve always wanted to see what Dambusters would be like on the big screen and as far as Cineworld (Sheffield) goes, it’s only being shown once!
Chris
When did Jane have the new nose art? anybody know.
Simon
Simon,
It went on in 2005/06 thereabouts. She still carries the City of Sheffield crest on her starboard nose, along with badge of Bomber Command.
I can only concur with BMkIII. A super day out (it’s rarely anything else down there!) with plenty going on at this friendly museum. Nice place. Wish we’d known about the sextet of Austers and de Havillands beforehand though, especially the “mass” flyout. We might have stayed nearer the flight-line if we’d known! A couple were fairly familar, Auster 5 TJ534/G-AKSY and Chipmunk WK549/G-BTWF, from Breighton.
Chris
Finnigley 1992 was the last time I saw this girl on her final public display, when the bomb doors were opened to reveal a banner saying “Farewell”. Let’s hope, very soon, she can display “I’M BACK!”
Let’s keep the good vibes and good will going!

Hi LL,
Yes, Lindy did run, although it’s first pass was a little “pedestrian”! The second run was a bit more like it though.
A second Huey (72-21509) shot at the crowd with blanks (or sound effects? Anyone know) for bit, which was entertaining! Really though, I think the weather throughout the rest of the Country sort of put the kybosh on anything else turning up or being cancelled.
Gazelle HT.3 XW858 (G-DMSS) flew overhead roughly south, probably on its way to Breighton (Gazelle HA-LFM was spotted departing, as well as Alouette HA-PPC – sorry, no photos though. Keeping dry in the car after the show by the time the latter departed).
I just hope the weather is better for them tomorrow.

Hi Cees,
East Kirkby’s Hampden looked like this last September:
http://aviationpages.fotopic.net/p34134932.html
We saw it a couple of months ago and it seems to have a aquired a few more skin panels but nothing more externally obvious. Hope this helps.
Chris
Just checked LPGs web site and the September 30th event is cancelled, although no reason is given.
Chris
Are both these aircraft now based in the uk? be nice to see this in formation with the polikarpov.
Mark,
It would seem so. Just had a quick look at Military Aircraft Markings August ’07 update and:
5 w Yakovlev Yak-3UA (0470204/D-FYGJ) Privately owned, Sleap
21 w Yakovlev Yak-3UA (0470203/RA-3364K) Privately owned, Headcorn

Thanks guys, yes it is my website and it took some work i can tell you.
Susy has been renamed Darlin Ann, after Taffs Wife and from what i was told yesterday she has been sold(the mustang not his wife) and will be going to Germany. This is what i was told by a freind on the Breighton staff, so do not shoot the messenger.
Yes, definitely off to Germany. She won’t be attending the mass-Mustang bash in the States either, apparently.
That F-15 crash was a sickener. It looked really good for about the first twelve seconds. Apparently, a top panel came adrift (which plenty of people saw, just after the gear was retracted) and due to the speed of the thing, the back end blew apart in the airflow, it pitched nose-down and well…
What a sickener! The rest of it went back inside in cardboard boxes a couple of bin liners.
Nice photos 252. Can’t match those so I did the best with what I have. At least the team at Breighton tried to get something up, despite the rather horrible conditions!

airfields and access
An interesting thread and once again raises the issues of access to airfield sites. I have just come across the following on the 28 Days Later forums:
http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=15121
Scroll down the images (yes, they’re pretty good, although very few captions) until you reach the close up of the sign (second post) which says “B CLASS” and just read what he’s written. IMHO totally irresponsible! I’m referring of course to Gary (especially) and Peter’s posts from a few days ago who also seem to share the same sentiments.
It’s this sort of behaviour which will ruin it for the genuine airfield researcher – and I know from this forum there are plenty around who really know their beans! We (1 Group and myself) ALWAYS seek permission, either in advance or by prior permission (where the landowner is known). If we don’t, it means a lot of asking around and door knocking.
Sure, we’ve been questioned and only once turned away, which we duly did but due to asking around, we have met some truly wonderful people and been given access to buildings which otherwise would have been ‘out of bounds’, which has added to the photographic record of these sites. Just because there isn’t a “No Entry” sign doesn’t mean to say that there is a right of passage – see the disclaimer on my own website. It’s there for a reason.
And no, I’m not being selfish. It would be great if everyone with an interest could see these fast-decaying site (too often sold off by local authorities for that oh-so ever popular phrase ‘low-density housing’ or a new furniture superstore, et al).
Sorry to vent my spleen like this on the historic board but it makes me fume that some morons might spoil it for the people who really want to record, properly – and there are a lot of us – the historic remains of Britain’s wartime aviation heritage.

“The Flight”
For those of you not within the Yorks/Lincs region – it was superb! Brilliantly produced, including the unveiling of the new new scheme of PA474 and a few shots of her being re-furbed. Good stuff, brilliantly shot and a good commentary. I agree with snaps – -definitely shiver down the spine stuff.
Only problem is, I haven’t tuned my VCR into the cable set top box! Anyone record it?:o
Chris
PS – bloody sick of the snooker and I live in Sheffield!
Its the Trident cockpit procedure simulator that used to be at Cosford. Now looked after by the Trident Preservation Society.
Bruce
Ah-ha! It’s making sense now! Many thanks for the help everyone – appreciated.
