Looks like a H.S Trident, seems not to have the small side oblong window above the main windscreen, so I wonder if its original or not?
The teardrop window seems to fit the bill, as I’ve just looked here: http://www.britishaircraft.co.uk/aircraftpage.php?ID=70 but I see what you mean about the small oblong window though (just noticed that!)
However, IS it the real thing? Unfortunately, I had to take this with the lens poking through a very robust fence, so this is as close as I could go.

Thanks for that Pongo.
Thanks for that.

I thought this was the Historic forumm, not PRE-Historic 😉
Actually, I already have a few copies of Flight from the same period and whilst I share your sentiments WV, I keep mine just as ‘curios’!
Seems unusual that no-one wants a couple of bound volumes though (mine are single). Sadly, I’m not putting in an off though.

Sad to hear of Buchheim’s death. One of my favourite books is his photo journal ‘U-Boat War’ (1978). He was an accomplished artist, trained at the Dresden Academy of Art and later went on to become a newspaper artist/illustrator. When war broke out, he joined the Kreigsmarine and reached the rank of Lieutenant and eventually served aboard U-Boats as an official Naval correspondent. Although he was an illustrator and not a photographer, the photos which he took were largely for his own record and form the basis of ‘U-Boat War’.

Let’s hope Shoreham’s stays where it is then as from what I understand, these are pretty rare ‘fixtures’ these days.

Don’t forget…
The A. W. Albermarle GT.II (is this what you meant when you mention ‘Albacore’?) and the Whitley (mainly for training though).

Does anyone have any info on the smaller versions of the upkeep?/ I believe a smaller version was used against shipping? I think the Germans also had their own version , though its just a dim memory from watching the History channels.
That was Highball. Some other people will have more info to hand than me but it was intended to be an anti-shipping mine, dropped by 618 Sqn. There’s a bit about it on this Wiki entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bouncing_bomb
Chris
There’s also an example of the mine in the West Tower of Derwent Dam, Derbyshire Peak District which forms the centrepeice in the small museum, along with a memorial to 617 Sqn.

Cracking video! Nice to see a B-24 being used as a camera ship. And there’s nothing wrong with the music! I’m trying to work out who it is though. My first thoughts were Tom Petty (although for some reason Ry Cooder sprang to mind).
There’s enough music buffs on these forums to identify it. Unfortunately the video comments don’t say but personally I think it matches the vid nicely.
Now waits for barrage from people who DON’T like proper rock ‘n’ blues being played on an aviation video!
Chris
My moniker’s on it too. Good petition subject.

The ‘WL’ prefix on the license plate is Luftwaffe (Werhmacht, or more accurately ‘Heer’ is ‘WH’). No idea on the unit/divisional markings though! A hefty trawl around the interweb perhaps…………

Lovely pics Gary! Puts mine to shame (mind you, I think we’re at different ends of the photographic spectrum here!). The fourth photo gets it just right – you can put the noise to it too!
Daz – yes EK is a must at least once, especially the ‘end of term’ bash. The Pantons and staff have it just right. I can see this being a regular visit for us from now on as it just rounds things off for the year nicely.

The B&W shot is superb. Takes you back to a whole different era of aviation.
Cheers Mike. That was quite odd actually. I’d just popped out of the hanger for a round of tea from the NAAFI van and promptly walked into a time warp!
Seriously, as a ‘living history’ society (who were they – anyone know? Be worth looking out for again), they were very good and gave a super presentation in the hangar during the evening before the night run of ‘611.

Superb shots Darren. Just thought I’d add a couple of my modest efforts (none of her taxi-ing though – forgot my tripod and by that time 1Group had taken his back to the car. Mind you, we’d have wound up bickering as to who was going to use it!).
A superb, if freezing day out, mitigated by lots of excellent burgers and chips and buckets of atmosphere! Well done to everyone at EK for another great end of term bash!
